Impossible Creatures

Impossible Creatures is a real-time strategy game released on December 29, 2002 developed by Relic Entertainment in conjunction with Microsoft Studios. Its unique feature is that the armies used are all created by the player. The armies consist of 9 creatures; each one is a combination of any two animals from a list of 76. Many animals possess inherent abilities to add more strategic depth to the game. There is an extensive single-player campaign as well as online multiplayer functionality with different game modes, add-ons, custom maps, mods, and scenarios.
Impossible Creatures was followed up later by a free downloadable expansion entitled Insect Invasion which added new creatures and abilities to the game. The last official add on for Impossible Creatures was released in 2004. Relic has stated that they have no further plans for the Impossible Creatures universe.

Portal

Portal is a 2007 first-person puzzle-platform video game developed by Valve Corporation. The game was released in a bundle package called The Orange Box for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 on October 9, 2007, and for the PlayStation 3 on December 11, 2007. The Windows version of the game is available for download separately through Valve's content delivery system Steam and was released as a standalone retail product on April 9, 2008. A standalone version called Portal: Still Alive was released on the Xbox Live Arcade service on October 22, 2008; this version includes an additional 14 puzzles. An OS X version was released as part of the Mac-compatible Steam platform on May 12, 2010. A Linux version was released on Steam as a beta on May 2, 2013, and came out of beta on June 24, 2013. An Android port for the Nvidia Shield was released on May 12, 2014.
The game primarily comprises a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using "the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device", a device that can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes.

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2 is the well-recieved sequel to Half-Life. Half-Life 2 takes place in the dystopian City 17 and the surrounding area, almost 20 years after the events of the original Half-Life. In the intervening years, Gordon Freeman has presumably been kept unconcious while the alien race known as the Combine enslave Earth.

The game recieved very high reviews, with its most lauded aspects being its extremely realistic graphics and physics, as well as its excellent story telling, and its most critcized aspacts being its unusually long development period and incomplete ending. 

The game also marked the introduction of Valve's somewhat controversial Steam digital-distribution service, which requires an internet connection to install the game even if purchased on CD.

Deus Ex

Deus Ex is a series of cyberpunk-themed first-person action role-playing video games. The series was developed by Ion Storm for the first two games and Eidos Montreal for later entries in the series. The series, set during the 21st century, focuses on the conflict between secretive factions who wish to control the world by proxy, and the effects of transhumanistic attitudes and technologies in a dystopian future setting.
The series currently consists of four games: Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: The Fall and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Eidos announced in October 2013 that future entries in the series would go under the umbrella name Deus Ex Universe. The series has received much critical acclaim over the years, and sold over 4.5 million units worldwide. A fifth instalment, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, was announced on April 8, 2015.

The Orange Box

The Orange Box is a video game compilation for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Mac OS X and Linux. The Windows and Xbox 360 versions were produced and published by Valve Corporation and released on October 10, 2007, as a boxed retail copy. A Windows-only download through Valve's Steam service was released the previous day. All games run on the Source Engine.
The PlayStation 3 version was produced by Electronic Arts and released on December 11, 2007, in North America and in Europe. Valve has also released a soundtrack containing music from the games within the compilation.
The compilation contains five games, all powered by Valve's Source engine. Two of the games included, Half-Life 2 and its first stand-alone expansion, Episode One, had previously been released as separate products. Three new games were also included in the compilation: the second stand-alone expansion, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the puzzle game Portal, and Team Fortress 2, the multiplayer game sequel to the original mod based on the Quake engine, Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic on the original Half Life.

Unreal Tournament is a first-person shooter video game co-developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. It was first published in 1999 by GT Interactive for PC. Infogrames released it for the PlayStation 2, and Sega Studios San Francisco released it for the Dreamcast home consoles. The game is based on the same technology that powered Unreal, but the design of UT shifted the series' focus to competitive multiplayer action.

Half-Life: Opposing Force

Half-Life: Opposing Force is an expansion pack for Valve Software's science fiction first-person shooter video game Half-Life. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and Valve Corporation and published by Sierra Entertainment on November 19, 1999. Opposing Force is the first expansion for Half-Life and was first announced in April 1999. Randy Pitchford, the lead designer on the game, later noted that he believed Gearbox was selected to develop Opposing Force because Valve wanted to concentrate on their future projects. Over the course of development, Gearbox brought in a variety of outside talent from other areas of the video games industry to help bolster various aspects of design.
Opposing Force returns to the same setting as Half-Life, but instead portrays the events from the perspective of a U.S. Marine, one of the enemy characters in the original game. The player character, Adrian Shephard, is sent in to neutralize the Black Mesa Research Facility when a scientific mishap causes it to be invaded by aliens, but quickly finds that the Marines are outnumbered and slowly being beaten back by a second alien race and black operations units.

Unreal Tournament 2004

Unreal Tournament 2004, also known as UT2004 and UT2K4, is a futuristic first-person shooter computer game developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. It is part of the Unreal series of games, particularly the subseries started by the original Unreal Tournament, and is a sequel/expansion to 2002's Unreal Tournament 2003.
The game features most of the content of its predecessor, replacing it on store shelves. Unreal Tournament 2004 boxes sold in the United States include a $10 mail-in rebate requiring that a short form be completed and sent to the publisher along with a copy of the manual cover for Unreal Tournament 2003. Versions sold in the United Kingdom had a similar offer, but required sending in the play CD for Unreal Tournament 2003 instead.
Among significant changes to gameplay mechanics and visual presentation, one of the major additions introduced by Unreal Tournament 2004 is the inclusion of vehicles and the Onslaught game type, allowing for large-scale battles.
Its sequel, Unreal Tournament 3, was released on November 19, 2007.

Counter-Strike

Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter video game developed by Valve Corporation. It was initially developed and released as a Half-Life modification by Minh "Gooseman" Le and Jess "Cliffe" Cliffe in 1999, before Le and Cliffe were hired and the game's intellectual property acquired. Counter-Strike was first released by Valve on the Microsoft Windows platform in 2000. The game later spawned a franchise, and is the first installment in the Counter-Strike series. Several remakes and Ports of Counter-Strike have been released on the Xbox console, as well as OS X and Linux.
Set in various locations around the globe, players assume the roles of members of combating teams that include counter-terrorists and terrorists. During each round of gameplay, the two teams are tasked with defeating the other by the means of either achieving the map's objectives, or else killing all of the enemy combatants. Each player may customize their arsenal of weapons and accessories at the beginning of every match, with currency being earned after the end of each round.
As of August 2011, the Counter-Strike franchise has sold over 25 million units.

Day of the Tentacle

Day of the Tentacle, also known as Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle, is a 1993 graphic adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. It is the sequel to the 1987 game Maniac Mansion. The game's plot follows Bernard Bernoulli and his friends Hoagie and Laverne as they attempt to stop the evil Purple Tentacle—a sentient, disembodied tentacle—from taking over the world. The player takes control of the three and solves puzzles while using time travel to explore different periods of history.
Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer co-led the game's development, their first time in such a role. The pair carried over a limited amount of elements from Maniac Mansion and forwent the character selection aspect to simplify development. Inspirations included Chuck Jones cartoons and the history of the United States. Day of the Tentacle is the eighth LucasArts title to use the SCUMM engine.
The game was released simultaneously on floppy disk and CD-ROM to critical acclaim and commercial success. Critics focused on its cartoon-style visuals and comedic elements.

Postal 2

Postal 2 is a first-person shooter video game by Running with Scissors, and it is the sequel to the 1997 game Postal. Both are intentionally highly controversial due to high levels of violence and stereotyping. Unlike its predecessor, Postal 2 is played completely in first-person based on the Unreal Engine. Scenes of the game can be seen in the music video of the Black Eyed Peas single "Where Is the Love?".
In 2004, New Zealand banned Postal 2 due to "gross, abhorrent content" and Australia later banned the game due to "excessive abhorrent content". On May 1, 2007, Malaysia banned the game outright due to "very high impact violence & offensive depictions of cruelty". The game is also banned in Germany and temporarily banned for sale in Sweden. The games were later legally made available worldwide through GOG.com in 2009 and Desura in 2012, and was successfully greenlit on Steam later that year.
The game received a mixed reception from critics upon its release in 2003, with some reviewers going so far as to give the game a score of zero, while others argued in favour of the game's concept and implementation.

Medieval II: Total War, the indirect sequel to 2002's Medieval: Total War and the fourth game in the Total War series from The Creative Assembly, is a game of turn-based strategic rounds and real-time tactically-oriented battles, released in November 2006. The game is set between the years 1080 and 1530. Like the original Medieval: Total War, it focuses on medieval warfare, religion and politics in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The time-frame stretches into the era of the discovery of the New World, and simulates the discovery and conquest of the Americas. Medieval II is built on the code base of Rome: Total War.

Plants vs. Zombies is a 2009 tower defense video game developed and originally published by PopCap Games for Microsoft Windows and OS X. The game involves a homeowner using a variety of different plants to prevent an army of zombies from entering their house and "eating their brains". It was first released on May 5, 2009, and made available on Steam on the same day. A version for iOS was released in February 2010, and an HD version for the iPad. An extended Xbox Live Arcade version introducing new gameplay modes and features was released on September 8, 2010. PopCap released a Nintendo DS version on January 18, 2011 with content unique to the platform. The PlayStation 3 version was released in February 2011 also with added new co-op and versus modes found in the Xbox 360 version. An Android version of the game was released on May 31, 2011 on the Amazon Appstore, while it was also released to the Android Market on December 14, 2011. On February 16, 2012, a version was released for BlackBerry PlayBook. Later, a BlackBerry smartphone version of the game was released on January 2013 following the launch of BlackBerry 10.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a Japanese role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom. It is commonly referred to as Trails in the Sky First Chapter to distinguish itself from the rest of the games in the Trails in the Sky series. The game is the first game in trilogy of titles, which also includes Trails in the Sky Second Chapter and Trails in the Sky Third Chapter, and collectively, the titles create the sixth entry in the larger The Legend of Heroes series of video games.
First Chapter was first released in Japan for Microsoft Windows in 2004, and later ported to the PlayStation Portable in 2006. North American video game publisher Xseed Games acquired the rights to push the game from Falcom, but did not release it until 2011 due to the game's massive size and amount of text necessary to translate and localize. An HD port to the PlayStation 3 was released in Japan in 2012 as part of Sony's PSP Remaster line of games, while an HD remake for the PlayStation Vita has been announced for 2015; both Japanese-only releases.

Psychonauts

Psychonauts is a platform video game created by Tim Schafer and starring the voice of Richard Horvitz as Raz. The game was released in April 2005 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox and PlayStation 2. It was released on Steam on October 11, 2006, as an Xbox Original through Xbox Live Marketplace, and on the GameTap subscription service. On November 5, 2009, Psychonauts became available through the online distribution service GOG.com through their partnership with Majesco. In September 2011, an OS X port was released, with a Linux port released through the Humble Indie Bundle V on May 2012. The PlayStation 2 version was re-released on PlayStation Network on August 28, 2012.
Psychonauts is based on the character Raz, a young boy gifted with psychic abilities who runs away from the circus to try to sneak into a summer camp for those with similar powers in order to become a "Psychonaut", a spy with psychic abilities. He finds that there is a sinister plot occurring at the camp that only he can stop.

Cave Story

Cave Story is a freeware platform-adventure video game released in 2004 for the PC. It was developed over five years by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya in his free time. Cave Story features 2D platform mechanics and is a homage to the classic games the developer played in his youth, such as Metroid.
After its initial self-published release, Cave Story slowly gained popularity on the Internet. It received wide critical acclaim for its compelling story and gameplay. Independent developer Nicalis worked with Amaya to port the game to WiiWare and DSiWare in 2010. An enhanced version, Cave Story+, was released for Steam in November 2011, with a Nintendo 3DS release in October 2012. A 3D remake of the game, titled Cave Story 3D, was developed by Nicalis and published by NIS America for the Nintendo 3DS in November 2011.
The game focuses on an amnesiac protagonist who awakens in a cave. Through his explorations, he discovers a plot by the Doctor, a megalomaniac who intends to force the inhabitants of the cave to fight for him in his bid to conquer the world. The protagonist is thrust into the position of savior as he endeavors to defeat the Doctor.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX[a] is a 2010 maze video game developed and released by Namco Bandai Games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, later ported to Steam and iOS. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX builds upon the gameplay of Pac-Man Championship Edition, in which players control Pac-Man as he travels through a maze collecting dots and avoiding ghosts, which can be eaten by collecting power pellets.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a platform video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube developed by Krome Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released in North America, Australia and Europe in 2002.
The first installment in the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series, the game is set on a fictional Australian island and follows the titular character, the last of the thylacines, as he searches for "thunder eggs" to power a machine he then uses to locate the five scattered talismans and free his family, who are trapped in the Dreamtime by the series antagonist Boss Cass, a cassowary plotting world domination. Development of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger began in 2000 with five developers from Krome Studios. The development team was later expanded to 45 people. For the levels in the game, the developers drew inspiration from the Australian landscapes.
The game was first revealed in 2002 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo convention in Los Angeles, California. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger received positive reviews from critics, most of whom praised the gameplay and graphics and drew favorable comparisons to the Crash Bandicoot series. The game sold over one million copies worldwide.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game, developed by Relic Entertainment and based on Games Workshop's popular tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000. It was released by THQ on September 20, 2004 in North America and on September 24 in Europe. Since its release, three expansion packs have been released: Winter Assault in 2005, Dark Crusade in 2006, and Soulstorm in 2008. The sequel, Dawn of War II was released in February 2009.
The Game of the Year edition was released on September 21, 2005 in the USA and on September 23 in Europe, containing 4 exclusive maps. Later, the Game of the Year edition and Winter Assault were bundled in the Gold Edition in the USA, released in March 2006. In November 2006, Dawn of War and its first two expansions were released together as The Platinum Collection in the USA or as the Dawn of War Anthology in the PAL regions. More recently, in March 2008, all three expansions along with Dawn of War have been released as The Complete Collection.
As a series Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide as of January 2013.
