Some period horror movies are based on classic literature while other good period horror films feature completely original characters and storylines. A few of the best period horror films even generated sequels.

What films will you find on this top period horror movies list? Bram Stoker's Dracula has to be at the top. Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves starred in this 1992 film set in the 1400s. Bram Stoker's Dracula took home several Oscars the following year for Costume Design, Sound Editing, and Makeup. Sleepy Hollow is another one of the most entertaining period horror films to ever hit the big screen.

The Conjuring has produced several sequels and even the spin-off franchise Annabelle. Other good period horror films include Ravenous, The Wolfman, and From Hell.
