The storied history of Penn State has resulted in national championships and a loyal, devoted fan and alumni base who proudly call themselves &quot;Penn Staters.&quot; However, the players aren&#39;t slouches either. Franco Harris and Jack Ham are two Hall of Fame players who attended Penn State and were forces on the gridiron in both college and the NFL. In the 1990s, players like Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter, and Kyle Brady bridged the program&#39;s success into the next generation, while the 2000s saw running back Larry Johnson carry the team to greatness.

Tony Dorsett

Anthony Drew "Tony" Dorsett (born April 7, 1954) is a former American football running back who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos.
From Western Pennsylvania, Dorsett attended the nearby University of Pittsburgh, where he led the Panthers to the national title as a senior in 1976 and won the Heisman Trophy. He was the first-round draft choice of the Cowboys in 1977, the second overall selection (from Seattle). Dorsett was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and played for the team for eleven seasons, through 1987. He played for Denver the following year, then retired because of injuries. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1994) and the College Football Hall of Fame (1994).

Curtis Martin

Curtis James Martin Jr. (born May 1, 1973) is a former American football running back who spent the majority of his career with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). Martin began his professional career with the New England Patriots, who selected him in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft. As a free agent in 1998, he joined the Jets where he finished his career in 2007 due to a career-ending knee injury in the 2006 NFL season. He retired as the fourth leading rusher in NFL history. He was selected as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

LeSean McCoy

LeSean Kamel "Shady" McCoy (born July 12, 1988) is an American football running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft after playing college football at Pittsburgh. In the 2015 offseason, McCoy was traded to the Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso. After the trade, he signed a new five-year contract worth $40 million. McCoy made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three years in Buffalo, helping the team snap a 17-year playoff drought, and has become one of a few select NFL running backs to surpass 10,000 career rushing yards. McCoy is a two-time Super Bowl champion (LIV, LV), six time Pro-Bowler, and two-time All Pro (2011, 2013).

Dion John Lewis (born September 27, 1990) is an American football running back for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. With the New England Patriots, he won Super Bowl LI over the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. Curvin Richards

Curvin Richards is a former professional American football running back who played for three seasons in the National Football League. He played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers before he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Cowboys and one season with the Detroit Lions in 1993. While playing for Dallas, Richards was the backup to Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. During the last game of the 1992 regular season, when the Cowboys were playing the Chicago Bears, the team was resting most of its regular players, including Smith, to prepare for the upcoming playoffs. Richards saw extensive playing time in this game but committed two costly fumbles which nearly cost the Cowboys the game. The next day, Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson released Richards, citing the fact that he could not tolerate a running back with a fumbling problem going into the playoffs. Thus, Richards missed the entire 1992 postseason, including the Cowboys' 52-17 win over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.

Lewis Lorando "Randy" McMillan, born December 17, 1958 in Havre de Grace, Maryland in northeast Harford County, was a professional American football player who was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the 1st round (12th overall) of the 1981 NFL Draft. McMillan earlier had played for the "Fighting Owls" of Harford Community College of Harford County, Maryland in Churchville where he earned All-American junior college honors before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh. McMillan played in six National Football League (NFL) seasons from 1981 to 1986 for the old Baltimore Colts, his "home team" and continued with the team when owner Bob Irsay moved them to Indiana in March 1984 in a very controversial franchise move becoming the Indianapolis Colts.

LaRod Stephens-Howling (born April 26, 1987) is a former American football running back and kickoff returner. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Pittsburgh. He was also a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Stephens-Howling now serves as the running backs coach for Robert Morris Colonials football.

Frederick Henry Mazurek (born March 21, 1943 in Republic, Pennsylvania) is a former American football flanker in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins.  Fred received a scholarship from Pitt and was the starting quarterback for the Pitt Panthers from 1961 to 1965.  They played for the national championship in 1963 against Navy and lost 7 to 6 (Roger Staubach was the quarterback for Navy).
He also played baseball and was an All-American center fielder for the baseball team at the University of Pittsburgh.
