List RulesVote up the Red Skull comic book story arcs every fan must read

Here are the best storylines to feature the Red Skull. When it comes to villains, you don't have to look much further than the Red Skull! This was a guy who was proud to work for Hitler under the 3rd Reich, and he offered up a supervillain for Captain America to fight throughout the Second World War. He's evil, and for some reason, he's not going anywhere! The Red Skull has been featured in Marvel Comics for nearly 80 years, and when a character has been around for that long, they're bound to turn up in more than a few stories every so often.

Because he's been around for decades, there are tons of comic books, great stories, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, comic book issues, story arcs, storylines, and one-shot books about the Red Skull, it can be hard to determine which is the best of the Skull's greatest adventures. This list attempts the impossible by narrowing the best down to the top 20.

Check out the stories listed below, and if you see your favorite, vote it up. Then check back to see which of these comics is the best Red Skull story ever told!

  • Story Found In: Wolverine #66-72 and Wolverine: Old Man Logan Giant-Size

To be fair, Old Man Logan isn't, for the most part, a story about the Red Skull. That being said, the character plays a significant role in the story of Logan's "hero's quest" such that it shouldn't be left out of consideration from a list of the Skull's greatest tales.

In the story, Logan travels across the wasteland that is the former United States with Hawkeye. Their goal was to deliver vials of the Super Soldier Serum to a resistance group/make some serious profit, but that's neither here nor there. Logan ends up meeting the Red Skull, whose sanity isn't as solid as one might prefer.

He has positioned himself as a would-be Emperor and wears the tattered mask of his vanquished foe, Captain America. Ultimately, the two end up fighting, and Logan finds a way to use some of the Skull's trophies to take care of the old enemy. It's an important part of the story, and an interesting look at what befell the Red Skull in a future dystopia, which makes it a must-read for fans of the Red Skull.

Just as Cap arrived to stop him, the plan came to fruition and the Red Skull had the dangerous artifact in his hand... what will become of the Marvel Universe now that the nefarious Red Skull is in possession of so much power, and will Cap be able to stop him?

Story Found In: Captain America: Reborn #1-6

Captain America may have died at the end of the first Civil War, but that doesn't mean the man who represents liberty is going to stay dead. Like all comic book characters who reach the end of their days, Cap is coming back, but it won't be easy, and you know the Red Skull is going to be involved somehow.

Captain America: Reborn tells of how Cap became stuck in time, and how he was later unstuck and brought back to the present. The Red Skull is definitely involved, and while this isn't specifically his story, it couldn't be told without Cap's greatest, and oldest enemy.

    The Sign Of The Skull!

    Story Found In: Super-Villain Team-Up #10

In this classic tale, which was also the first to feature the Red Skull as one of the title villains, Captain America finds himself digging deep into the secret past of his longtime nemesis while a usurper sits upon the Latverian Throne.

With someone pretending to be Victor Von Doom, it may be up to the likes of Captain America and his allies, the Avengers, to dethrone the would-be despotic dictator! This is a classic tale for both Cap and the Red Skull, and it establishes several characteristics for both, which will remain for years to come.
