The Irony of Fate, directed by Eldar Ryazanov, was first shown on television New Year’s Eve 1976 in the Soviet Union. It was such a hit that to this day it is a tradition in Russia to watch the movie every year on New Year’s Eve.

Space Dogs is an animated comedy that honors the first two dogs to survive a trip into space. Another Russian animated film is Snow Queen, which was released around the same time as Frozen and bears a visual resemblance to the Disney film.
