The second most winningest Super Bowl team in the NFL (tied with Dallas with 5), the Niners won all their championships under the leadership of only two coaches. Deion Sanders

Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. (; born August 9, 1967), nicknamed "Prime Time" and "Neon Deion", is a retired American football player, baseball player and sports analyst who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. During his football career, he was a member of the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers,  Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and the Baltimore Ravens. He also had a part-time career as a baseball outfielder for nine seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), where he played professionally for the New York Yankees, the Atlanta Braves, the Cincinnati Reds, and the San Francisco Giants. Sanders won two Super Bowl titles and made one World Series appearance in 1992, making him the only individual to appear in both a Super Bowl and a World Series.
Sanders attended Florida State University, where he was recognized as a two-time All-American in football, and also played baseball and ran track. He was drafted by the Falcons in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft and played football primarily at cornerback, but also as a kick returner, punt returner, and occasionally wide receiver. During his career, he was named to nine Pro Bowls and made consecutive Super Bowl appearances in XXIX with the 49ers and XXX with the Cowboys, winning both. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Following the conclusion of his athletic career, Sanders currently works as an analyst for CBS Sports and the NFL Network. He is also the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill high school, which his sons attend. Sanders founded the Prime Prep Academy charter school in 2012 where he coached until the school closed in 2015 due to financial insolvency.  Additionally, he starred in the show Deion Family Playbook which debuted in 2014.

Ronnie Lott

Ronald Mandel Lott (born May 8, 1959) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback, free safety, and strong safety in the National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons during the 1980s and 1990s.
Lott played college football for the University of Southern California (USC), and was honored as a consensus All-American.  A first-round pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, he played for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets, and Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. Lott was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, and is widely considered to be one of the best of all time at the safety position in NFL history and one of the best players in NFL history.

Eric Wright

Eric Cortez Wright (born April 18, 1959) is a former American professional football player who was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2nd round of the 1981 NFL Draft. Before that, the  6'1", 183 lbs. cornerback from the University of Missouri was an all-Big Eight defensive back in 1979 and '80. He played on three University of Missouri teams that appeared in bowl games, and was selected for Missouri's all-century team in 1990. Wright shares the Missouri record for the most pass interceptions in a game (three vs. San Diego State in 1979).
Considered one of the best cover cornerbacks of his day, Wright played in ten NFL seasons, from 1981–1990, all for the 49ers including starting on four Super Bowl-winning teams. Wright made a key defensive play in the NFC Championship game on January 10, 1982 against the Dallas Cowboys. On the Cowboys' last possession in the final minute, after Dwight Clark had made The Catch, Wright made a touchdown-saving tackle on Cowboy wide receiver Drew Pearson to preserve the 49er win and propel them into their first Super Bowl.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Wright's peak performance year was during the 1983 season when he intercepted 7 passes for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns. He intercepted passes in Super Bowl XVI and Super Bowl XIX.
Wright missed a majority of the 1986 and 1987 seasons with a deep groin pull and chipped bone in the area, missing all but 4 games during the two-year stretch. But he returned as a starter in 1988 and was on the 49ers-back-to-back Super Bowl-winning teams. 
Wright is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.  He is currently an alumni coordinator for the 49ers.

Merton Hanks

Merton Edward Hanks (born March 12, 1968) is a former American football player who was a safety in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons during the 1990s. He is currently a Senior Associate Commissioner at Conference USA.

Eric Davis

Eric Wayne Davis (born January 26, 1968) is a former professional American football player who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1990 NFL draft. Davis played in 13 NFL seasons from 1990 to 2002. He played college football at Jacksonville State. In May 2013, he was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

Rod Woodson

Roderick Kevin Woodson (born March 10, 1965) is a former American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons. He had a 10-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a key member of the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV championship team that beat the New York Giants. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, wearing the jersey number 26 throughout his career. He holds the NFL record for fumble recoveries (32) by a defensive player, and interceptions returned for touchdown (12), and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1993. His 71 career interceptions is the third-most in NFL history. He was an inductee of the Class of 2009 of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on August 8, 2009. Woodson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016. Rod played most of his career as a cornerback then switched to safety during the later part of his career.
From his retirement in 2003 to February 2011, Woodson worked as an analyst for the NFL Network (on NFL Total Access and Thursday Night Football) and for the Big Ten Network. He spent the 2011 season as the Raiders' cornerbacks coach. He then returned to broadcasting, working for Westwood One as an analyst on college football (2012) and the NFL (2013) before resuming his coaching career in 2014.

Jimmy Johnson

James William Johnson (born July 16, 1943) is an American football broadcaster and former player, coach, and executive.  
He served as the head football coach at Oklahoma State University–Stillwater from 1979 to 1983 and the University of Miami from 1984 to 1988. Johnson then moved to the National Football League (NFL), serving as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 to 1993, winning two Super Bowls with the team (both against the Buffalo Bills), and finally serving as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999.  As of 2016, he is an analyst for Fox NFL Sunday, the Fox network's NFL pregame show for the NFL games.
Johnson was the first and one of only three football coaches to lead teams to both a major college football championship and a Super Bowl victory, the others being Barry Switzer and Pete Carroll.
Johnson's coaching tree includes a number of future head coaches such as Butch Davis, Norv Turner, Tommy Tuberville, Dave Campo, and Dave Wannstedt. In 1993, Johnson wrote Turning the Thing Around: My Life in Football, ghostwritten by Ed Hinton. Johnson attended Thomas Jefferson High School, later renamed Memorial High School, where two of his classmates were future rock icon Janis Joplin and actor G. W. Bailey.Johnson attended college at the University of Arkansas and played on the Arkansas Razorbacks football team, where he was an all-Southwest Conference defensive lineman for coach Frank Broyles and a teammate of future Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Other teammates included Ken Hatfield, Jim Lindsey, Ronnie Caveness, and Loyd Phillips. Several future head coaches were assistant coaches for Broyles and the Razorbacks during Johnson's career in Fayetteville: Hayden Fry, Johnny Majors, and Barry Switzer.  The 1964 Razorbacks squad went undefeated and was recognized as a national champion by the Football Writers Association of America. Johnson was nicknamed "Jimmy Jumpup" because he never stayed down on the ground for long during football practices or games.

Don Griffin

Donald Frederick Griffin (born March 17, 1964 in Pelham, Georgia) is a former professional American football player who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 1986 NFL Draft.  A 6'0", 176-lb. cornerback from Middle Tennessee State University.



Marquez Pope

Marquez Pope (born October 29, 1970, in Nashville, Tennessee) is a former professional American football player who was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the 2nd round (33rd overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft. A 5'11" cornerback-safety from Fresno State University, Pope played for 5 teams in 10 NFL seasons from 1992 to 2001. His best year as a pro came during the 1996 season for the San Francisco 49ers, intercepting 6 passes with 1 touchdown. During his pro career, Pope was known to be among the hardest hitters in the NFL. 
Pope is the only National Football League player in history to play on all California teams (San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland). He also inspired the Marquez Pope rule, which states that a fumble recovered by a defensive player will be spotted at the spot of the recovery, not where the player's momentum leads him. This occurred because in 2000, Pope recovered a fumble by Seahawk Ricky Watters, but a rainy field at Husky Stadium in Seattle caused him to slide into his own end zone with the ball, which led to a safety for the Seahawks.

Timothy Bernard McKyer (born September 5, 1963) is a former professional American football player. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 1986 NFL Draft and played in 12 NFL seasons for 7 different teams from 1986 to 1997.

Bruce Taylor

Bruce Lawrence Taylor (born May 28, 1948 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey) is a former professional American football player who was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1st round of the 1970 NFL Draft. A 6'0", 184 lbs. cornerback from Boston University, Taylor played in eight NFL seasons and spent his entire career with the 49ers from 1970-1977. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 1971 season. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
Taylor graduated in 1966 from Perth Amboy High School.

Tarell Brown

Tarell Lameek Brown (born January 6, 1985) is a former American football cornerback. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football for the University of Texas.

Jimmie Ward

James "Jimmie" Ward (born July 18, 1991) is an American football free safety for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the 49ers as a safety in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Northern Illinois. On September 17, 2017, he made his season debut and recorded five combined tackles and deflected a pass in a 9-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The following week, Ward made his first start as a free safety and collected a season-high seven solo tackles during a 39-41 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. On October 19, 2017, Ward made three combined tackles in a 10-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He left the game after suffering a fractured forearm. On November 1, 2017, Ward was placed on injured/reserve for the remainder of the season. Ward finished the 2017 season with a total of 32 combined tackles (27 solo) and a pass deflection in six starts and seven games.

Nate Clements

Nathan D. Clements (born December 12, 1979) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL).  He played college football for Ohio State.  He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills 21st overall in the 2001 NFL Draft, and also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals.

Carlos Rogers

Carlos Cornelius Rogers (born July 2, 1981) is a former American football cornerback. He played college football at Auburn, where he earned consensus All-American honors, and was drafted by the Washington Redskins ninth overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. Rogers has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.



Ahmed Plummer

Ahmed Kamil Plummer (born March 26, 1976) is a former  NFL player who played six seasons for the San Francisco 49ers from 2000-2005. A 5'11", 191 lb. cornerback from The Ohio State University, Plummer was selected by the 49ers in the 1st round (24th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft. After only playing in 9 of the last 32 games due to injuries and missing significant parts of both 2004 and 2005 seasons, he announced his retirement from the NFL on June 16, 2006.
Plummer is the cousin of former NBA player, Brian Grant.

Tramaine Brock

Tramaine Brock Sr. (born August 20, 1988) is an American football cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Belhaven University and the University of Minnesota before signing with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

Darryl Pollard (born May 11, 1964 in Ellsworth, Maine) is a former professional American football player who played cornerback for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL). His listed highlights are the Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV championships, and playing on an undefeated Colorado State High School Championship team in 1981.

Kermit Alexander

Kermit Joseph Alexander (born January 4, 1941) is a former American football defensive back in the National Football League. He was on the Board of Directors for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which is named after Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott, and is awarded annually to college football's defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.

Christopher LaBarren Culliver II (born August 17, 1988) is an American football cornerback who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at South Carolina.

Abe Woodson

Abraham Benjamin Woodson (February 15, 1934 – February 8, 2014) was an American football cornerback and kick returner who played nine seasons in the National Football League, mainly with the San Francisco 49ers. He also spent two years with the St. Louis Cardinals.
