Sci-fi geeks, we need you now more than ever! This is Ranker's list of the greatest sci-fi anime of all time, and we want you to make your voice heard by voting on this poll. Although science fiction TV is typically associated with live-action shows, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that some of the best sci-fi series ever created are anime. Sci-fi anime can also cross multiple genres, including horror anime, romance anime, robot girl anime and even samurai anime. Sure Star Trek is an enormously popular show, but is Cowboy Bebop not an equally amazing creation? The space western formally introduced anime to the western world when it debuted in 2000, and is universally considered one of the greatest works of art ever made. Other popular anime series that fall under the science fiction genre include Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ergo Proxy and Gurren Lagann.

What makes these series stand out from other anime? Often it's the setting, as many sci-fi series like Outlaw Star take place in space. Other times it's the unique characters, like the cybernetic humans found in Ghost in the Shell. No matter what makes an anime sci-fi, it doesn't matter as long as it brings us joy and entertainment.
