The much anticipated sequel Blade Runner 2049 is easily one of the best sci-fi movies this year as well as one of the greatest films of all time. Guillermo del Toro captured hearts with his sci-fi love story The Shape of Water, while Luc Besson's space epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets disappointed fans. Other great 2017 sci-fi movies include Life, Alien: Covenant, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Ghost in the Shell.
