What's cooler than a good old fashioned sci-fi spaceship? Seriously? Science fiction spaceships travel at impossible speeds, they often pack all manner of awesome firepower, and they just look so cool. Most importantly, they travel through space.
Our obsession with space and fci-fi spaceships is nothing new. The fascination has been around as long as science fiction itself. Long before CGI ships shaped like anything imaginable, filmmakers and fans would build miniatures of the spaceships in their heads. Science fiction is a big part of mainstream pop culture thanks to film, TV, video games, and literature, so spaceships are just part of our visual vocabulary. Everybody, even people who aren't into sci-fi, knows which ships they like the most.
We wanted to look back at the coolest sci-fi spaceships throughout the years to find out which one is the best. The classic battle between Star Wars and Star Trek, will it be the Millennium Falcon or the Starship Enterprise? Or maybe even Darth Vader's Tie Fighter? Or something more modern like Star-Lord's Milano in Guardians of the Galaxy?Whatever the case, we want to hear from you! Vote up the spaceship below that you would most want to fly. Your votes will determine to most coveted fictional spaceships in the whole galaxy.
What is there to say that hasn't been said? With Han and Chewie behind the wheel, the Millennium Falcon is the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. The most famous ship from Star Wars looks cool, it handles like a dream, and it's fast! Heck the thing made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs.
Like Skywalker's X-Wing in Star Wars has incredible agility, it's durable, and it has a sweet little spot for R2D2 to tag along in. Is there a more iconic hero fighter ship?
Serenity is the oddly beautiful spunky little ship from the show Firefly (named after the ship's class) and the aptly titled movie Serenity. The outside kind of looks like a mechanized Nessie, and the inside is a patchwork of ragtag rooms and hallways. But there's just something really endearing about Serenity, plus it's zippy and maneuverable.
Star-Lord's ship from Guardians of the Galaxy isn't just slick on the outside, it's also got the interior every kid that grew up in the '80s would dream of, complete with a tape deck for Awesome Mixes vol. 1 and 2. It's basically a muscle car, but for space. Plus it's named after Alissa Milano.
