After Jennifer Walters picked up some irradiated blood from her cousin back in 1980, she's been the Savage She-Hulk! Since that time, the character has grown to be something of an anti-Hulk in that she has a lot more control over her body than her cousin Bruce. She's been a member of the Avengers, Defenders, Fantastic Four, Heroes for Hire, S.H.I.E.L.D., and many other agencies, and through it all, she's been on some incredible adventures.
Because she's been around for decades, there are tons of comic books, great stories, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, comic book issues, story arcs, storylines, and one-shot books about She-Hulk, making it hard to determine which is the best of She-Hulk's greatest adventures. This list attempts the impossible by narrowing the best down to the top 20.
Check out the stories listed below, and if you see your favorite, vote it up. Then check back to see which of these comics is the best She-Hulk story ever told!
Web of Lies
Story Found In: She-Hulk #4
For years, J. Jonah Jameson has used his considerably vocal and outspoken platform to rally hatred and mistrust against everyone's favorite Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. After years of unwarranted abuse, Spidey has had enough, and that's why he turned to none other than Jen Walters to bring a libel suit against the media magnate!
This is a great Spider-Man story as well as a She-Hulk tale. It gets into superheroes fighting with their brains and the system they swore to protect to right a wrong, and it's incredibly funny to boot. This one is a great read whether you're a fan of ole Web-Head and/or She-Hulk!Is this a great story arc?
The She-Hulk Lives
Story Found In: The Savage She-Hulk #1
She-Hulk's first appearance came in The Savage She-Hulk #1, which also told her origin story. The issue marked the last major contribution for Marvel by Stan Lee; at least, in terms of writing. The origin story involves a last-minute blood transfusion from Bruce Banner, which had some... side-effects.
This is one of those collectible books fans always want to throw into their collections, but it is easy enough to find in Marvel Masterworks compendiums as well as other trade paperbacks. Seeing as this is a list about the greatest She-Hulk stories ever told, her introduction to the Marvel Universe simply had to make the list.Is this a great story arc?
The Naked Truth
Story Found In: Fantastic Four #275
When the Secret Wars crossover event came to a close, the Thing opted to remain on Battleworld for a while. The team was in need of another tank to fill out its ranks, and it was She-Hulk that they turned to. Jen filled the role well, and she got involved in the group's dynamics pretty easily, becoming almost a new member of the family.
Jen's time on the team lasted several issues, and she would leave and return multiple times over the years. In a particularly entertaining story, Jen is photographed by the tabloids sunbathing in the buff, and it happened to get her in both her Jen and She-Hulk forms. The situation was something a superhero shouldn't have to deal with, but that's kind of how Jen operates. She tried everything to keep the pics from the presses, but in the end, it was an inking error, which made them all but unrecognizable. Is this a great story arc?
Story Found In: The Sensational She-Hulk #1
Jen has gone from Savage to Sensational with the first issue in her new run titled, The Sensational She-Hulk! This book takes She-Hulk right through the fourth wall thanks to John Byrne's hilarious take on the character, and the stories laid out in the first eight issues are some of the best in She-Hulk's library!
This book was all about returning She-Hulk to her own run, and it was marketed to achieve that. The cover should tell you everything you need to know about why it's important to read this comic. Nobody wants She-Hulk to come over to their home, and tear up their X-Men collection! Is this a great story arc?
