The South is known for its pageant contestants, with their glitzy dresses and sky-scraping hairdos. No shade, the drag queens from down South are the same way. Pageants are the level by which all Southern queens are judged, so the girls from below the Mason-Dixon come big, pretty, and polished. Nobody wants to get read for resting on pretty though, so many of famous Southern drag queens also bring the laughs, cut a rug, or keep their camp game strong. Drag is a multifaceted form of entertainment, after all.
It's a bit surprising how many of the best queens come from the South, considering some of the regional politics that impact the LGBTQ community. But this list is chock full of famous female impersonators from Alabama to West Virginia, and they've all got their own spin on the classic Southern drag aesthetic.
Who takes the cake as the best Southern female impersonator? Vote up your favorite famous Southern queens!
