List Rules Please only rank the players based on their time with the Cardinals

This is a list of the Greatest St. Louis Cardinals in the history of the franchise. One of the most celebrated franchises in baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals have been the standard for consistent excellence in the National League for many years. This traditional power has been to 18 World Series, winning 11. Many of the best players in baseball history have been members of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Stan Musial is known to many as the best St. Louis Cardinals player ever. During his 24 year career, "Stan The Man" best represents the model of consistency that the Cardinals stand for. He played in 24 All Star Games (tied with Willie Mays and Hank Aaron for the most all time) and is a 3-time MVP winner (1943, 1946, 1948). When he retired, Musial held or shared 17 major league records, 29 National League records, and 9 All-Star Game records. The Cardinals won 3 World Series championships during his time with the team. The Cardinals honored Musial by placing a statue of him in front of Busch Stadium, an honor bestowed on only the best players in their history.

Bob Gibson is considered not only considered one of the best pitchers in St. Louis Cardinals history, but also in the history of baseball. The fiery fireballer set a Major League record in 1968 when he posted a 1.12 ERA and is one of the few pitchers to win the MVP Award that same year. Gibson's competitive nature is legendary. He often intimidated his opponents by throwing fastballs up and in. Gibson's number 45 was retired by the Cardinals in 1981 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame that same year.
