The Best 'Star Wars' Vehicles That Can't Go Into Space

List RulesVote up the Star Wars vehicles you most want to take for a ride.

When it comes to the coolest Star Wars ships, it's easy to immediately think of all the vehicles that can go into space. The Millennium Falcon, X-Wings, and Star Destroyers are fan favorites, but not every Star Wars ship can venture into the cosmos. That doesn't mean the terrestrial-bound crafts aren't worth taking for a spin; in fact, some of the finest Star Wars vessels never leave the land. This list covers the best ground ships Star Wars has to offer. For a vehicle to qualify, it has to be fun to drive, it should be able to go insanely fast or at least pack a serious punch, and it must not be able to leave a planet's atmosphere.

From the best lightsaber designs to the wildest space stations ever seen, the Star Wars franchise boasts one of the most technologically innovative universes in spite of its struggles with involuntary servitude, desolate planets, and rebellion; and these alterative forms of transportation prove it.

    AT-AT Walker

Where It Appeared: Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

    Planet It Was On: Hoth

All-Terrain Armored Transports (AT-AT) are heavily shielded transport vehicles used by the Galactic Empire for various missions. Their long legs make them relatively fast and capable of managing most types of terrain. There is very little that can penetrate their heavy exterior.

The AT-AT is the successor to the AT-TE. They are prominently employed during the Battle of Hoth to take out the Rebel base's shield generator. They prove effective until Luke Skywalker figures out how to take them down with his Snowspeeder's harpoon and tow cables.

    74-Z Speeder Bike

Where It Appeared: Star Wars - Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

    Planet It Was On: Endor

The 74-Z Speeder Bike is used by the Galactic Empire on Endor, and is one of the fastest and most dangerous speeder bikes. They are stripped of all unnecessary hardware to increase their speed. As a result, a casual ride or say, chase, through the dense forests on the moon of Endor can prove fatal.

Trained Scout Troopers are fitted with a specialized HUD to help them anticipate approaching branches; however, even with this feature, they often don't survive the ride.

The bikes are also equipped with a device that jams communication for other speeders within range. They can reach up to 500 kph and attain an altitude of some 25 meters. Each speeder bike is fitted with an Ax-20 blaster cannon.

Where It Appeared: Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

    Planet It Was On: Hoth

The Rebels use Snowspeeders to great effect against the Imperial Forces' AT-AT walkers during the Battle of Hoth. Though their lasers are incapable of penetrating the exterior of the AT-ATs, the Rebels ingeniously use the Snowspeeders' cables to bind the walkers' legs, bringing the Imperial beasts to the ground.

The Snowspeeders used on Hoth are modified T-47 Airspeeders that can handle the harsh cold climate of Hoth. Their modifications include special heat dispersion fins, two laser cannons, and a harpoon with tow cable.

    X-34 Landspeeder

Where It Appeared: Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope

    Planet It Was On: Tatooine

The X-34 Landspeeder is Luke Skywalker's personal vehicle, which he uses as a teenager living on Tatooine with his aunt and uncle. The speeder uses repulsorlift technology to sail above the ground at a maximum cruising speed of 250 kph.

X-34s are versatile craft that can be retrofitted with blaster devices. While the XP-38 is an updated version of the craft, the X-34 can still be found all over the planet, often at a reduced price.
