The Stargate franchise series started with a movie simply named Stargate and released in 1994. It introducing viewers to the concept of these titular “Stargates,” ancient devices that create a wormhole to destinations across the universe. Since then, there have been some great Stargate series – expanding quickly into an incredibly interconnected franchise that features five TV series and three films.

Stargate SG-1 ran 214 episodes across 10 seasons. The show takes place after the events of the film and follows the SG-1 military team as it explores the galaxy. Stargate Universe which stars Robert Carlyle, follows Nicholas Rush and his team following an attack on their secret military base. In total, there are eight movies or series in the Stargate franchise, one of which is animated.
