Vote up the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book story arcs every fan must read
Ever since Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird put out their quirky black and white comic about a group of teenage pizza-eating ninja turtles, the best TMNT comics have been an institution. The team has been in several live-action films, they have had multiple animated series, and of course, there have been some amazing comic books along the way. The adventures of Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael have been epic, but not every TMNT story is as good as the rest... some are incredible works of fiction no fan can go without reading.
Over the 36+ years they've been chomping down pizza and beating up members of the Foot Clan, there have been tons of comic books, great stories, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, comic book issues, story arcs, storylines, and one-shot books about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, making it hard to determine which is the best of TMNT's greatest adventures. This list attempts the impossible by narrowing the best down to the top 20. You can also use this list as a TMNT reading guide.
Check out the stories listed below, and if you see your favorites, vote them up. Then check back to see which of these comics is the best TMNT story ever told!
Details: In this excellent compilation, the Turtles begin their journey as a team, taking their bond as brothers to the next level, but there is still a distance remaining between them. It's going to take some time and a lot of work to build their bond as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Meanwhile, General Krang and Baxter Stockman are working behind the scenes, but their time has finally come to step out into the light! Krang wants to see some results, and Baxter's new invention may just deliver exactly what the General wants: the Turtles!
Details: It was quite a long time before the Turtles returned to the pages of comics, and they did so in this incredible adventure published by IDW! The heart and soul of the team is at stake as an entirely new origin story unfolds for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it's a completely different world!
The group breaks up, and Raphael wanders the streets of New York City. He's without food, water, or shelter, and his brothers head out to find him alongside Master Splinter. Of course, they don't find him as easily as they find trouble, and it isn't long before Old Hob, and his gang of criminals meet up with the TMNT!
Details: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may be the best martial artists in their universe, but have they ever met up with DC's Dark Knight? Yes. Yes, they have, and it was an amazing adventure in a six-issue miniseries, which was aptly titled Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
This incredible crossover takes place in New York City, where the TMNT face one of the deadliest foes yet, when the Foot Clan, Shredder, and Krang creates a dimensional warp as part of his villainous scheme. Meanwhile, the Caped Crusader finds himself fighting against a new enemy when Shredder and the Foot Clan appear in Gotham City!
It's going to take the combined might of Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo, and Batman to counter this new threat, and the result is one of the greatest team-up crossovers in comics history!
Details: The death of Oroku Saki, otherwise known as the Shredder, was just the beginning for the Turtles' greatest enemy. He must now journey through the deepest, darkest depths of the underworld, but it's nothing like Dante's Divine Comedy, and Shredder truly must learn what it is to be damned!
Will there be anything left of the villain's soul after he faces all the horrors Hell has in store for him, or will his path take him even deeper into the depths of the underworld? Shredder must face off with the demonic forces of the underworld, and if he succeeds, he may just learn the truth about his very soul.
Details: On Christmas Eve, the Turtles, Splinter, and April are working on a turkey while setting up their tree, but Leonardo is ambushed by the Foot while he was out exercising. He's beaten so badly, he almost dies, at the hands of Shredder, who was believed dead!
He's thrown through April's skylight in her store, Second Time Around, and when everything looks bleak, a savior in the form of Casey Jones shows up just in the nick of time to save the day. Of course, now that Shredder has returned, the Turtle's world will forever be changed, as the Foot Clan regains its strength.
Details: There's a lot going on in these two issues of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which sees Donatello doing his own thing while Splinter, Michaelangelo, Leonardo, and Donatello find themselves meeting up with Old Hob. The new Mighty Mutanimals are looking for recruits.
The team, which consists of Slash, Gecko, Pigeon Pete, Mondo, and Herman, the Hermit Crab, are looking good, but when Pete shows up with his two potential recruits, things get crazy. His guys are none other than Bebop and Rocksteady, and when Old Hob learns that they are half-human, the battle blows up, and everyone is involved!
