An estimated 50 million people around the world are active Tinder users, all hoping their profile will generate coveted swipes to the right. But with so many users looking for mates, you might be curious about how to get more matches on Tinder. Fortunately, science offers some answers. And the most effective Tinder hacks, according to research, are relatively easy to employ.

Since its launch in 2012, the Tinder app has been helping users find love, whether a partner for the long haul or Mr./Ms. Right Now. Flattering photos go a long way in attracting right swipes; we live in an image-obsessed society, after all. But researchers in various fields, from psychology to sociology, have investigated other factors that increase the likelihood of a potential mate swiping right. What they've found are specific characteristics that the best Tinder bios and photos tend to share.

Choose A Photo Of Yourself Posing With A Pet

Prospective mates are drawn to people who have pets. According to researchers, 35% of women and 26% of men surveyed said they were more attracted to someone who had a pet. And 75% of women and 54% of men said they would not date someone who did not like pets.

So, pets automatically boost your chances for a right swipe; include them in at least one Tinder pic to up your odds.

Don't Wear Glasses Or Hats In Photos

Wearing glasses, either prescription lenses or sunglasses, and hats might make you look shady in a Tinder photo. Glasses in a profile pic can reduce chances of a right swipe by as much as 15%. A hat reduces chances by 12%.

What does this accessory information tell us? Perhaps users respond to images in which the subject looks open and forthcoming, not like they have something to hide. As for eyeglasses, that might simply be an old prejudice that's yet to die.

Be Neatly Groomed In Your Pics

Research has found that the most attractive features of other people fall into the category of "self-care." Show you're invested in your appearance and the image you project to the world.

Guys: comb your hair, trim your facial hair, and make sure your clothes fit well. Gals: style your hair and wear flattering clothes. One of the best things about self-care is that anyone can do it, so take pride in what you're putting out there.

Go For Bright, Bold Colors

With potential mates swiping through photo after photo, you need to take steps to catch their eye. An easy way to do this is by choosing a profile pic in which you're wearing bright or bold colors.

Red suggests passion, energy, and assertiveness. Orange conveys playfulness, kindness, and optimism. Magenta displays your power and magnetism. Yellow shows you're warm, cheerful, and communicative. Skip the gray; it channels staleness and depression.

So don't be afraid to wear something loud - but tasteful.
