Voting Rules

Vote up your favorite female tsundere characters.

Love them or hate them, tsundere characters are an important part of the anime landscape - especially the tsundere girls from romance anime. These female tsundere characters act rude, haughty, or even violent in order to cover up softer feelings toward the person they love.

From early examples like Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina to newer entries into the tsundere genre like Chizuru Mizuhara from Rent-A-Girlfriend, it's clear that these ladies have a firm hold in the anime world. Which ones do you like the most?

Taiga Aisaka might look adorable, but her personality is the exact opposite. Instead, she's rude, aggressive, and ready to lay the smackdown on anybody who disrespects her. This is a bit of a problem for her, since she has a huge crush on a guy who seems to have a pretty gentle personality.

Luckily for her, the guy she ends up with is exceptionally kind and empathetic - so much so that he can see through her angry facade to the person she truly is.

Kaguya Shinomiya - 'Kaguya-sama: Love Is War'

The worst thing that could possibly happen to Kaguya Shinomiya is other people finding out that she's in love with her fellow student council member, Miyuki Shirogane. While she's an ice princess with a tendency to verbally eviscerate those who displease her, she's also a big goopy romantic who has no idea how to approach the boy she loves.

That's why she's so adamant that he be the one to confess his feelings first, and is willing to concoct all kinds of ridiculous plans to make that happen.

Nino Nakano - 'The Quintessential Quintuplets'

Getting along with any of the Nakano quintuplets is no easy task for their tutor Futaro Uesugi, but Nino is the toughest of all. At first, she steadfastly refuses to have anything to do with Uesugi, because she sees him as an interloper in her family affairs. She expresses those feelings with barbed insults about his appearance and social skills.

She soon realizes that not only does she have a massive crush on him, but so do her sisters. She's afraid that these feelings will tear their family apart, so she reacts by behaving even more rudely toward Uesugi - but she can't help but let him see her vulnerable side, too.

Chitoge Kirisaki - 'Nisekoi: False Love'

If you imagine an archetypal tsundere, Chitoge Kirisaki might be the image that comes to mind. She's hot-headed and rude toward anybody who annoys her, even people who she's never met before. This makes it pretty hard for Raku to get along with her despite really needing to do so in order to please their mafioso families and make their fake dating seem even remotely plausible.

When she realizes that she actually likes Raku, she struggles to admit to her feelings and doesn't really know how to alter her behavior to make a real relationship possible. Hey, nobody said being a tsundere was easy.

    Misaki Ayuzawa - 'Maid Sama!'

Misaki Ayuzawa doesn't like boys and men, and for good reason - her father walked out on her family when she was young, forcing them into poverty. Meanwhile, her male classmates are a bunch of rowdy, inconsiderate, and overly aggressive jerks who are constantly harassing female students and disrupting their education. Misaki isn't afraid to speak up about this, which earns her a reputation for being a bit of a tyrant.

Still, she does want to actually let her guard down and be close to someone. It's just not that easy given her experiences.

  • Hitagi Senjougahara - 'Bakemonogatari'

Hitagi Senjougahara literally calls herself a tsundere in canon, so she's a must for this list. She first gets to know her eventual boyfriend when she's suffering from a curse that makes her body weigh almost nothing. He finds out about her secret and she threatens his life if he reveals the truth.

Rather than running away, as many people might, Koyomi Araragi decides to help her out. She's reluctant to accept his assistance at first, but eventually she gives in. Though she's grateful for his help, she's still quite sharp with him, and it takes her a long time to admit to her feelings.
