TV dinners have been popular since 1953, when the Swanson company coined the term "TV Dinner." Gerry Thomas, a Swanson employee and the father of the TV dinner, invented this new way to enjoy mealtime with your family after being inspired by the three-compartment aluminum trays used to serve food on Pan Am Airways. He even contributed his very own cornbread stuffing recipe to the Swanson company's TV dinner recipe archives.

Nowadays, TV dinners aren't quite as popular, unless you're a starving college student microwaving three Lean Cuisines at a time in your dorm's kitchen, or a ten-year-old child surviving your parents's divorce by filling up on Kid Cuisines. With food delivery apps that deliver fresh for to your front door, there's hardly any reason to heat up frozen, processed food in this day and age. However, you can't deny the convenience of it. Perhaps someday we'll cycle back around from ordering Chinese take out and watching Netflix to popping a TV dinner into the "science oven" and watching old Gilligan's Island reruns on the telly.
