Years after the events that occurred in God of War III, Kratos has settled down in the Norwegian realm of Midgard. The game explores elements of Norse Paganism, but while the classic Norse gods like Thor and Odin are all but unseen, God of War instead focuses on the lesser gods like Magni and Modi.

God of War explores the life of Vikings around the time when they sailed away from Scandinavia and into Iceland, Greenland, and Europe. The examples of Norse mythology in the game are pretty on point (at least according to some articles), and while the developers exercise a lot of creative freedom with certain gods, the overall dramatic feel is pretty impressive.

Ok, this isn't technically a Viking game, as it doesn't take place in Scandinavia (or even on Earth). It does, however, have lots of elements that are based on Nordic mythology.

Skyrim is an epic open-world RPG where you have the freedom to do whatever you want, and play however you want. You can use large weapons, small weapons, bows, magic, or even your fists to defeat your enemies. Constantly ranked as one of the greatest games of all time, Skyrim is a must-play for any gamer. It also will give you a Viking feel if that is what you are looking for.

Although Banner Saga 3 is the most recent from the franchise, any of the three Banner Saga games are great for people who want to play an immersive role-playing strategy game about Vikings. Set in a fictional and magical world that's heavily inspired by classic North mythology, the games feature turn-based combat, so you will need to be strategic to come out on top.

Like most RPGs, the choices your characters make will have a dramatic effect on how the game plays out, meaning your decision to take in a stray could have an impact on what happens later on. All three Banner Saga games are linear, and while each game works perfectly well as a stand-alone, it's probably best to start with the first installment and work your way through.

For Honor offers a more grounded depiction of Vikings than many other games. Although they still wear full horned helmets, furs, and colored war paint, the game does a good job of giving a realistic depiction of Vikings. The game uses detailed fighting mechanics that can be complex to beginners. However, once you get the hang of the system you can be very creative in combat.

One of the game's greatest attributes is the fact that it gives players so much freedom to play as various warriors throughout the ages. In addition to Vikings, players can play as both samurai and knights.
