This list ranks the best Alabama Crimson Tide players of all time. Football is a way of life in Alabama. The state is home to two of the most famous schools in NCAA history: Auburn and Alabama. The latter is one of the most recognized programs in the sport and recently has dominated college football behind some of the best players in school history. The football program started in 1892 and has established itself as one of the most iconic names in sports. Alabama has won 15 national championships and those teams featured some of the best players in Crimson Tide history. Many of Alabama's greatest players went onto achieve success in the NFL, including future Pro Football Hall of Famers like John Hannah, Ozzie Newsome and Derrick Thomas. Surprisingly, with the school's rich history of having a roster full of outstanding players, curiously has only one Heisman Trophy in its cabinet. In 2009, Mark Ingram barely nudged past <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/best-stanford-cardinal-running-backs/ranker-college-football?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Stanford running back</a> Toby Gerhart to take the trophy back to Tuscaloosa.&nbsp;In recent years, a good number of Alabama players have gone on to play in the NFL. Under the stewardship of Nick Saban, Alabama is going through its greatest stretch since the legendary Bear Bryant was at the helm. Michael Vick

Michael Dwayne Vick (born June 26, 1980) is a former American football quarterback who played 13 seasons in the National Football League, primarily with the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at Virginia Tech and was selected by the Falcons as the first overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. During his six years with the Falcons, Vick was regarded as having transformed the quarterback position with his rushing abilities and was named to three Pro Bowls. He holds the record for the most career rushing yards by a quarterback (6,109) and the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season (1,039).
Vick's NFL career came to a halt in 2007 after he pleaded guilty for his involvement in a dog fighting ring and spent 21 months in federal prison. His arrest and subsequent conviction garnered Vick notoriety with the general public, which lasted throughout the rest of his career. He was released by the Falcons shortly before leaving prison.

After serving his sentence, Vick signed with the Eagles in 2009. As a member of the Eagles for five years, he enjoyed the greatest statistical season of his career and was named to a fourth Pro Bowl in 2010, but left Philadelphia after the team moved in a new direction. In his final two seasons in the NFL, Vick played for the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers for one year each, primarily as a backup. He officially retired from professional football in 2017 after spending the entirety of the 2016 season in free agency.

Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Di'allo Taylor (born August 3, 1989) is an American football quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Virginia Tech, leading the Hokies to the 2011 Orange Bowl during his senior year. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft and served as the backup to starting quarterback Joe Flacco, including during the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers. 
Taylor was signed by the Buffalo Bills as a free agent in 2015, taking over the starting quarterback duties that season. He went on to earn a Pro Bowl appearance and eventually helped the Bills make their first playoff berth in 17 years before he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in March 2018, with the Bills drafting Josh Allen to replace him. Taylor started the first three games for Cleveland in 2018 before getting injured, and sat behind Baker Mayfield the rest of the season. The following March, he signed with the Chargers.

Bryan Randall (born August 16, 1983) is a professional American football quarterback who is a free agent. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Randall has also been a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as well as several indoor football teams.

Don Strock

Don Strock (born November 27, 1950) is a former American football player and coach.  He played professionally as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) with the Miami Dolphins (1973–1987), Cleveland Browns (1988), and Indianapolis Colts (1989).  Strock served as the head football coach at Florida International University from 2002 to 2006, compiling a record of 15–41.

Bruce Arians

Bruce Charles Arians (born October 3, 1952) is an American football coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) and a former player. He was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2013 to 2017, and also served as offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts. He also coached at the college level, serving as head coach at Temple and as an assistant at Mississippi State and Alabama. Arians is known for his trademark slogan "No risk-it, no biscuit", which encourages aggressive play and risk-taking.
Arians was the offensive coordinator of the Steelers from 2007 to 2011 after being promoted from wide receivers coach, a position that he had held with the team since the 2004 season. With the Colts, he also served as interim head coach for the during the 2012 season, when their rookie head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia. Arians guided the Colts to a 9–3 record over his tenure, which lasted from October 1 until Pagano's return on December 24; he was named AP NFL Coach of the Year for the season. He became the head coach of the Cardinals in 2013 following a lone season in Indianapolis. Following the 2014 season, in which Arizona posted an 11–5 record, Arians was named 2014's AP Head Coach of the Year, the second of his career.

Marcus Vick

Marcus Deon Vick (born March 20, 1984) is a former American football quarterback and wide receiver. Vick played high school football at Newport News Public Schools, and accepted a football scholarship to Virginia Tech, playing quarterback, however he was suspended for the entire 2004 season due to numerous criminal convictions. Vick then declared himself eligible for the 2006 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He was later signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent but was released on May 1, 2007.
Vick's legal troubles continued after leaving Virginia Tech, and include a charge of brandishing a firearm against a group of people, a civil lawsuit involving a juvenile girl who claimed that she was 15 years old (below the legal age of consent in Virginia) when forced into a sexual situation with Vick, who was 20 years old, and additional traffic incidents and arrests in January 2007, February 2008, and June 2008 in the Hampton Roads area. After the June incident in Norfolk, he was convicted of DUI, misdemeanor eluding police, and driving on the wrong side of the road, and on October 20, 2008, received a 12-month suspended jail sentence and $530 in fines, and his privilege to operate motor vehicles in Virginia was suspended for a year. In November 2012, after the Philadelphia Eagles' loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, Vick made controversial tweets criticizing the Eagles' offensive line for troubling Vick's brother Michael, and requesting for him to be traded. The tweets were later deleted. Vick was arrested in Georgia on December 30, 2013 on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a license and driving with an expired registration, according to a Forsyth County, Georgia Sheriff’s report. On October 8, 2016, he was arrested for felony drug possession.

Sean Glennon (born September 5, 1985) is a former American football quarterback. He played college football at Virginia Tech. He was a member of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL).
Glennon, was named the starter following the dismissal of Marcus Vick and held that job until being replaced by Tyrod Taylor during the 2007 season.  After Taylor was injured against Duke, Glennon reclaimed the starting duties and started every game that season. During the 2008 season, Virginia Tech split time between the two. Glennon's  brother Mike currently plays in the NFL.

Grant Noel

David Grant Noel (born July 11, 1980 in Low Moor, Virginia) is a former American football quarterback who played college football at Virginia Tech.  He was given the job of replacing dual-threat quarterback Michael Vick when he left early for the National Football League.  During the 2001 season, he took over the starting job and had a successful year leading the team to an 8-4 record.  However, this was considered lackluster when compared to the 11-1 record the Hokies had the last two years (1999–2000) with Vick.  He was blasted by fans on Internet message boards after the Hokies lost four of their last six games.  Despite his above-par play, fans blamed him for the Hokies' poor performance at the end of the 2001 season.  He finished the season with 1,826 yards on 146-of-254 passes with 16 touchdowns.During his senior season (2002), Noel was made the backup due to injury problems and the strong performance of backup quarterback Bryan Randall.  Against #1 Miami, Noel stepped into the game in relief of Randall and completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Wilford to bring the Hokies within two scores of the 'Canes, though a late Hokies rally would fall short.  He finished his career with the Hokies in the backup role and played briefly the following summer with the Baltimore Ravens.  Noel is now a sales consultant for Globus Medical.
