The best Washington Commanders kickers ever have all had a part in some of the biggest moments in franchise history. NFL games can be won and lost by one or two points, making every made or missed kick of the greatest importance and every starting kicker a potential hero.

Curt Knight

Luther Curtis Knight, Jr.  (born April 14, 1943 in Gulfport, Mississippi, United States) is a former NFL placekicker for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (1969–1973) and was the NFL's second leading scorer in 1971.  During the off-season he worked toward a BBA at the University of Texas.

Mark Moseley

Mark DeWayne Moseley (born March 12, 1948) is a former professional American football placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) who played for the Philadelphia Eagles (1970), the Houston Oilers (1971–72), the Washington Redskins (1974–86), and the Cleveland Browns (1986). He won the Most Valuable Player Award during the strike-shortened 1982 season.  He is one of the only special teams players to win the NFL MVP award.

Graham Gano

Graham Clark Gano (born April 9, 1987) is an American football placekicker for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida State University and was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Gano has also played for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the United Football League, the Washington Redskins and the Carolina Panthers. During his time with the Panthers, he achieved the franchise's record for longest field goal at 63 yards in 2018.

Chip Lohmiller

John McLeod "Chip" Lohmiller (born July 16, 1966) is a former professional American football placekicker in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, and St. Louis Rams. He played college football at the University of Minnesota and high school football at Woodbury Senior High School.

Charlie Gogolak

Charles Paul Gogolak (in Hungarian: Gogolák Károly Pál, born December 29, 1944) is a retired American football placekicker.
Gogolak was signed out of Princeton University by the Washington Redskins in the 1966 NFL Draft, marking the first time that a placekicker was selected in the first round.  He played for the Redskins, as well as the New England Patriots.  Gogolak was one of the first "soccer style" placekickers in the NFL along with his brother Pete.  The brothers combined to score 14 extra points in a single game, tied for the most ever, in a 72-41 win for Charlie's Redskins vs Pete's New York Giants.

Sam Baker

Loris Hoskins Baker (November 12, 1930 – June 5, 2007), was an American football player in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. While he played several positions, he was best known for being a punter and kicker. He played college football at Oregon State University.

Kai Forbath

Kai August Forbath (born September 2, 1987) is an American football placekicker who is currently a free agent. He played college football at UCLA and was recognized as an All-American and the best college kicker in the country in 2009. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2011, and has also played for the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dick Poillon

Richard Charles Poillon (August 13, 1920 – November 14, 1994) was an American football halfback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins.  He scored a career 247 points and was the Redskin's lead scorer for three years. Poillon was voted one of the Redskin's "Top 100 players" of all time by a poll in the Washington Post. He held the old record of 93 yards (on a lateral) Pick Off, Run On vs. the Philadelphia Eagles set on November 21, 1948 (broken December 26, 1987).  He attended Canisius College.

Jeff Chandler

Jeffrey Robin Chandler (born June 18, 1979) is an American former college and professional football player who was a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for three seasons during the early 2000s.  Chandler played college football for the University of Florida, where he became the all-time leading scorer with 368 points.  Thereafter, he played professionally for the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins of the NFL.

Bill Dudley

William McGarvey "Bullet Bill" Dudley (December 24, 1921 – February 4, 2010) was a professional American football player in the National Football League for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, and Washington Redskins.  He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966 and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1972.

Robert Khayat

Robert Conrad "Bob" Khayat (born April 18, 1938) was the 15th Chancellor of the University of Mississippi. He was appointed in 1995. Khayat, a former student of the University of Mississippi, is the only Chancellor of the university to be a member of the Student Hall of Fame there. He has B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Mississippi and a LL.M. degree from Yale University. 
He was born in Moss Point, Mississippi. His brother is Ed Khayat, former NFL defensive lineman and Philadelphia Eagles head coach.

Vic Janowicz

Victor Felix "Vic" Janowicz (February 26, 1930 – February 27, 1996) was an American football halfback in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins.  He played college football at Ohio State University and was drafted in the seventh round of the 1952 NFL Draft.  Janowicz was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1976.

Jess Atkinson

Jess Gerald Atkinson (born December 11, 1961 in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, and the Indianapolis Colts.  He played college football at the University of Maryland.
After his professional football career, Atkinson went into broadcasting, and began his career as a sports anchor with WRC in 1990.  He remained there until 1996 when he became the sports director at WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island.  In 2000, he returned to the Washington, D.C. area when he became the sports director at WUSA, a position he held until 2002.
Since his departure from WUSA, he has gone into different ventures, many of which keep him closely associated with his alma mater.  His most recent venture is the production of the television series Terrapins Rising, which is a reality show about the Maryland Terrapins football team that airs on Comcast Sportsnet.
He currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Natalie and their sons Joseph, Anthony, and their daughter Jessica. Tony played linebacker for Walt Whitman High School's varsity football team until his graduation in 2011.

Shaun Suisham

Shaun Christopher Suisham (; born December 29, 1981) is a Canadian born former American football placekicker. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Bowling Green.
Suisham was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams.

Bo Russell

Torrance Albert Russell, Jr. (January 23, 1916 – February 1, 1997) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins.  He played college football at Auburn University and was drafted in the eighth round of the 1939 NFL Draft. His interment was located in Birmingham's Elmwood Cemetery.

Sam Horner

Samuel Watson Horner, III (born March 4, 1938 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma) is a former American football halfback, defensive back, and punter in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants.  He played college football at the Virginia Military Institute and was drafted in the second round of the 1960 NFL Draft. He is a 1956 graduate of The Hill School

Cary Blanchard

Robert Cary Blanchard (November 5, 1968 – September 6, 2016) was an American football placekicker in the National Football League.  He played eight years for five teams: the New York Jets for his first two years, the Indianapolis Colts after taking 1994 off, the Washington Redskins in 1998, the New York Giants in 1999, and the Arizona Cardinals in his final season.
He graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas in 1987.  He then played college football at Oklahoma State University. He died in Mabank, Texas on September 6, 2016 at the age of 47.

Bob Jencks

Robert William Jencks (July 15, 1941 – September 6, 2010)  was an American football kicker and end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins.  He played college football at Miami University and was drafted in the second round of the 1963 NFL Draft.  Jencks was also selected in the fifth round of the 1963 AFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.  His rookie season was 1963, when the Bears defeated the New York Giants for the team's first NFL title since 1946.Jencks was born in Columbus, Ohio and died in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he had lived for many years.

Nick Novak

Nicholas Ryan Novak (born August 21, 1981) is an American football placekicker who is a free agent. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Maryland.
Novak has played for the Washington Redskins, Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, and Houston Texans of the NFL, as well as the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe and the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League (UFL).

Dustin Hopkins

Dustin Hopkins (born October 1, 1990) is an American football placekicker for the Washington Football Team of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida State, and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

David Akers

David Roy Akers (; born December 9, 1974) is a former American football placekicker. He played college football at Louisville, and was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 1997.
Akers also played for the Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Berlin Thunder, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions. He was selected for the Pro Bowl six times in his career and was at one point tied for the longest field goal in NFL history when he kicked a 63-yard field goal with the San Francisco 49ers. His retirement on October 23, 2017 made him the last Eagle from the Super Bowl XXXIX team to retire from the NFL.

Robert Scott Blanton (born July 1, 1973 in Norman, Oklahoma) is a formerAmerican football kicker in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins.  He played college football at the University of Oklahoma.

John Hall

John Hall (born March 17, 1974) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League.  He kicked for Port Charlotte High School and played college football at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.  While at Wisconsin, Hall played and won three bowl games (Rose, Hall of Fame and Copper Bowls).  He signed as a rookie free agent to the New York Jets in 1997. During his time with the Jets, Hall established himself as one of the hardest hitting kickers in the NFL, once injuring a player on a kickoff tackle.  Hall gave the Jets victory in The Monday Night Miracle in 2000 against the Dolphins with a 40-Yard field goal in overtime.
Hall was troubled by a groin injury for the 2004 season and only appeared in eight games.  Before being signed as a free agent by the Washington Redskins in 2003, he played six seasons for the New York Jets.  His most accurate season came in 2005, when he converted 12 of 14 field goals for an 85.7% success rate, although his season long was only from 45 yards out.  He also missed a crucial field goal, well within his range, in the Redskins' divisional playoff defeat against the Seattle Seahawks.
Hall's 53-yard field goal with 59 seconds left in the final regular season game against Oakland clinched a 2001 playoff berth for the Jets.  Hall missed the last second field goal attempt during the September 11, 2006 game vs. the Minnesota Vikings causing his team a loss.  Hall's problems have stemmed from his constant string of injuries.  He was placed on the injured reserve list for the 2006 season with a strained groin and a strained quadriceps muscle in his leg.  The Redskins released Hall on March 7, 2007, and he subsequently retired.Hall is married to his wife Christina and they have three children (Brady, Ava, and Hanna).  He no longer owns his own restaurant called John Hall's Goal Post Grill & Sports Bar in his hometown of Port Charlotte, Florida.

John Patrick Aveni (March 17, 1935 – January 20, 2002) was an American football placekicker and tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins.

James Tuthill

James Joseph Tuthill (born March 25, 1976 in Upland, California) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League for the Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Washington Redskins.  He played college football at California Polytechnic State University.
