Anderson was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2001 for The Royal Tenenbaums, in 2012 for Moonrise Kingdom, and in 2015 for The Grand Budapest Hotel. His stop-motion animated film, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2009.
