If you owned a Wii at any time during your life, then it's safe to say there were probably a few action games in your collection. With so many great options to choose from, there was never a shortage of games to play for fans of the genre. Since some games were much better than others, we've decided to rank the best Wii action games of all time. This list will feature the most popular and best selling action games that were released for Wii. While many of these games were console exclusive, we're allowing non-exclusives to be a part of the list as well. Everything from Super smash Bros. Brawl to <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/a-timeline-of-the-legend-of-zelda-chronology/stephanroget?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">The Legend of Zelda</a>: Twilight Princess is included on this poll. Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy is a 3D platform game developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and published by Nintendo for the Wii. It was released in most regions in November 2007, and is the third 3D original platformer in the Super Mario series after Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. The game follows the protagonist, Mario, on a quest to rescue Princess Peach and save the universe from the game's primary antagonist, Bowser. The levels in the game are galaxies filled with minor planets and worlds, while gameplay is updated with gravity effects and new power-ups.
Super Mario Galaxy was first shown at E3 2006 and enjoyed a high level of pre-release awareness. The game was an overwhelming critical and commercial success, having been hailed by several gaming websites as one of the best video games of all time, and has won a BAFTA. GameRankings lists the game as the third highest reviewed game of all time. The game is the eighth best selling Wii game worldwide with sales of 12.22 million, as well as the best selling 3D entry in the Super Mario series. The sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, was announced at E3 2009, and was first released in May 2010.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl, known in Japan as Dairantō Smash Brothers X, is the third installment in the Super Smash Bros. series of crossover fighting games, developed by an ad hoc development team consisting of Sora, Game Arts, and staff from other developers, and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. Brawl was announced at a pre-E3 2005 press conference by Nintendo president and Chief Executive Officer Satoru Iwata. Masahiro Sakurai, director of the previous two games in the series, assumed the role of director for the third installment at the request of Iwata. Game development began in October 2005 with a creative team that included members from several Nintendo and third-party development teams. After delays due to development problems, the game was finally released on January 31, 2008, in Japan; March 9, 2008, in North America; June 26, 2008, in Australia; and June 27, 2008, in Europe. Twenty-seven months after its original Japanese release, the game was released in Korea, on April 29, 2010.
The number of playable characters in Brawl has grown from that in Super Smash Bros. Melee, although a few character from Melee were cut in Brawl.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an action-adventure game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and published by Nintendo for the GameCube and Wii video game consoles. It is the thirteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. Originally planned for release on the GameCube in November 2005, Twilight Princess was delayed by Nintendo to allow its developers to refine the game, add more content, and port it to the Wii. The Wii version was released alongside the console in November 2006 in North America, and in December 2006 in Japan, Europe, and Australia. This made Twilight Princess the first Zelda game released at the launch of a Nintendo console. The GameCube version was released in December 2006, and was the last Nintendo-published game for the console, as well as the final official GameCube game released in Asia.
The story focuses on series protagonist Link, who tries to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by a corrupted parallel dimension known as the Twilight Realm. To do so, he takes the forms of both a Hylian and a wolf, and is assisted by a mysterious creature named Midna.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, released in Europe as Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies, and in Japan as Sin and Punishment: Sora no Kōkeisha is a 2009 rail shooter video game for Wii developed by Treasure and published by Nintendo. It is the sequel to the Nintendo 64 video game Sin and Punishment.
Set many years after the first game, Star Successor focuses on Isa Jo, the son of Saki and Airan from the first game, and a mysterious young woman named Kachi. The game is compatible with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, featuring online leaderboards. While the original game featured English voice acting in both the Japanese and English versions, the sequel has Japanese voice acting for the Japanese version, as well as the option to switch between Japanese and English voice acting in the non-Japanese versions.
Revealed at a Nintendo conference on October 2, 2008, it was released in Japan on October 29, 2009, in Europe on May 7, 2010, and in North America on June 27, 2010. Although Nintendo Australia never released the game physically, retailer JB Hi-Fi imported the UK version and began selling it on July 21, 2010.

Wii Sports

Wii Sports is a 2006 sports game developed and published by Nintendo as a launch title for the Wii video game console, and part of the Touch! Generations. The game was first released in North America along with the Wii on November 19, 2006, and was released in Japan, Australia, and Europe the following month. It was included as a pack-in game with the Wii console in all territories except Japan and South Korea, making it the first game included with the launch of a Nintendo system since Mario's Tennis for the Virtual Boy in 1995. Wii Sports is now available on its own as part of the Nintendo Selects collection of games and is no longer a pack-in game for the Wii.
The game is a collection of five sports simulations, designed to demonstrate the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote to new players. The five sports included are tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing. Players use the Wii Remote to mimic actions performed in real life sports, such as swinging a tennis racket. The rules for each game are simplified to make them more accessible to new players. The game also features training and fitness modes that monitor players' progress in the sports.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a platforming video game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Wii. It was first announced at E3 2009 and is the sequel to Super Mario Galaxy. It was released in North America on May 23, 2010, in Japan on May 27, 2010, in Europe on June 11, 2010 and in Australia on July 1, 2010. It is the fourth original 3D platformer in the Super Mario series, after Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
The story follows Mario as he pursues the Koopa King, Bowser, into outer space, where he has imprisoned Princess Peach and taken control of the universe using Power Stars. Mario must travel across various galaxies to recover the Power Stars in order to travel to the center of the universe and rescue the princess. The game was originally planned as an updated version of Super Mario Galaxy with some modifications and a projected development time of a year; this version would have been called Super Mario Galaxy More.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Muramasa: The Demon Blade, known in Japan as Oboromuramasa is an action role-playing game developed by Vanillaware and published by Marvelous Entertainment in Japan, Rising Star Games in Europe, and Ignition Entertainment in North America for the Wii. The game was released in Japan on April 9, 2009, in North America on September 8, 2009, and in Europe on November 27, 2009.
Muramasa follows the story of Kisuke, a fugitive who has lost his memory, including that of a crime that he committed; and Momohime, a lithe princess possessed by a dark spirit. Gameplay allows players to use the Wii Remote, the Classic controller or the GameCube controller. The game allows players to use two different characters and features three difficulty levels.
Within its first week of release in Japan, Muramasa sold all of its shipped copies and reached the top Japan sales list.
A PlayStation Vita port titled Muramasa Rebirth was released in Japan on March 28, 2013. The port features four new short scenarios with four new playable protagonists available as downloadable content under the four-part expansion Genroku Legends. Aksys Games published it in North America on June 25, 2013.

Lego Batman: The Videogame

Lego Batman: The Videogame is an action-adventure video game developed by Traveller's Tales, published by Warner Bros., and released in 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Mac OS X and Wii video gaming platforms. It is the first Lego Batman video game. The game is based on the comic book character Batman and the Lego Batman toy line, who also handled marketing and financial aspects of the game.
The game is similar to the Lego Star Wars series and Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, in that it is both a game based on a licensed property, and has environments, objects, and creatures made out of Lego. However, Lego Batman is the first to have an original story. The Mac OS X version of the game was released in April 2009 by Feral Interactive. A standalone sequel titled Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was released June 19, 2012 and a follow-up titled Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham was released on November 11, 2014.

The House of the Dead: Overkill

The House of the Dead: Overkill is a first-person rail shooter gun game developed by Headstrong Games and published by Sega in 2009. It is the fifth game entry in the The House of the Dead series, a prequel to the original House of the Dead chronologically and the first in the series to be released exclusively on a home console. An Extended Cut edition for PlayStation 3, compatible with the PlayStation Move accessory, was released in 2011. A mobile version, The Lost Reels was released on iOS and Android devices in 2013.
An alternate version, The Typing of The Dead: Overkill, was released for Microsoft Windows in 2013, replacing the game's shooting gameplay with keyboard typing mechanics from 1999's The Typing of the Dead. It includes the original shooting mechanics as an option.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a first-person action-adventure game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It is the 9th game in the Metroid series, and the final entry in the Metroid Prime trilogy—excluding two spin-off titles. It was released in North America and Europe in 2007, and in Japan the following year. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk devices are featured in a new control scheme that took a year to develop and caused the game's release to be delayed several times.
The story of Corruption is set six months after the events of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and follows bounty hunter Samus Aran as she assists the Galactic Federation in its fight against the Space Pirates. While fending off a Space Pirate assault, Samus and her fellow bounty hunters are attacked by her doppelgänger, Dark Samus, who incapacitates them with a mutagenic material called Phazon. After losing contact with the other hunters, the Federation sends Samus on a mission to determine what happened to them. During the course of the game, Samus works to prevent the Phazon from spreading from planet to planet while being slowly corrupted by the Phazon herself.

No More Heroes

No More Heroes is an action-adventure hack and slash video game for the Wii. It was directed by Goichi Suda, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Marvelous Entertainment, Ubisoft and Rising Star Games. The title comes from the album title No More Heroes which was released by the British punk band The Stranglers. A sequel, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, was first released in North America on January 26, 2010.
A port of the game called No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with additional content in Japan. Unlike the original, the international version of the game was published by Konami, and currently only the PlayStation 3 version of the game has been localized in Europe and North America. The International PS3 version is uncensored like the Japanese Xbox 360 version.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a 2010 side-scrolling platformer video game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Wii console. The game was released in North America on November 21, 2010, in Australia on December 2, 2010, in Europe on December 3, 2010, and in Japan on December 9, 2010.
A 3D port of the game, titled Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Europe and North America on May 24, 2013, in Australia on May 25, 2013, and in Japan on June 13, 2015.
The game's story focuses on a group of evil creatures called Tikis known as the Tiki Tak Tribe that arrive on Donkey Kong Island, and hypnotize the island's animals to steal Donkey Kong's bananas. This forces him to retrieve the hoard with the help of his nephew Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong Country Returns is the series' first traditional home console installment since Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and also the first Donkey Kong Country entry not to involve British video game developer Rare during its development. The game received generally positive reviews, receiving an average score of 87% on GameRankings and Metacritic, and selling 4.96 million copies worldwide by the end of March 2011.

Hyrule Warriors

Hyrule Warriors, known in Japan as Zelda Musō, is a hack and slash action video game released in Japan on August 14, 2014; in Europe on September 19, 2014; in Australia on September 20, 2014; and in North America on September 26, 2014. Developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja for the Wii U video game console, the game is a collaboration between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo, and is part of both Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series and Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors series. It is one of the best-selling games on the Wii U.

Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil Zero is a 2002 survival horror video game that was developed and published for the GameCube by Capcom. The game's storyline serves as a prequel to the first Resident Evil and covers the ordeals experienced by the police force Special Tactics And Rescue Service's Bravo Team and its newest member Rebecca Chambers. She investigates a series of murders and teams up with convict Billy Coen to survive a viral outbreak involving zombies. The player may switch between these two characters throughout the game to solve puzzles and to take advantage of their unique abilities.

Wii Play

Wii Play, released as Your First Step to Wii in Japan, is a party video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii console. It was released as a launch game for the console in Japan, Europe, and Australia, and was released in North America on February 12, 2007. The sequel to Wii Play, Wii Play: Motion, was released in 2011.
Wii Play features nine minigames that are designed to introduce players to handling the Wii Remote controller. Like all other titles in the Wii series, the players control Mii characters created using the console's Mii Channel application. Some of Wii Play '​s minigames were originally showcased as tech demos for the Wii at E3 2006.
Wii Play is the fifth best-selling game for the Wii, with 28.02 million copies sold worldwide as of March 31, 2012.

Wii Sports Resort

Wii Sports Resort is a sports video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console, and is the successor to Wii Sports. It is one of the first titles to require the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which is bundled with the game. Wii Sports Resort was first announced at E3 2008 and was released in Japan on June 25, 2009 and in nearly all other regions in the following month. While the game was originally released only as a stand-alone title, as of 2009 the game was bundled with newer Wii consoles, along with Wii Sports.
Wii Sports Resort is a collection of twelve sports games, which includes enhanced games from Wii Sports along with completely new selections, designed to take advantage of the motion sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Like Wii Sports, players mimic the actions performed in real life sports, but are controlled with greater accuracy due to the precision capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus in order to provide a more immersive experience.
The game was well received by game critics, gaining an aggregate score of 82.94% on GameRankings and 80% on Metacritic.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

Kirby's Epic Yarn, known in Japan as Keito no Kirby, is a 2010 platform video game developed by Good-Feel and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It is the tenth installment of the Kirby video game series and was released in October 2010 in Japan and North America and in February 2011 in Australia and Europe. It is the first entry in the Kirby series on a home console since 2003's Kirby Air Ride and its first home console platform game since 2000's Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
After eating a tomato belonging to the evil sorcerer Yin-Yarn, Kirby is banished into Patch Land, a world completely made of fabric, which turns him into yarn and makes his abilities to copy enemies by swallowing them and flying useless. He must help Prince Fluff by collecting seven pieces of magic yarn that are used to stitch Patch Land together. Kirby can also transform into objects like a car, a dolphin and a parachute at certain parts of the game.
Before the game's release, Kirby's Epic Yarn won numerous awards at E3 2010 including Game of the Show from GameSpot.

Super Paper Mario

Super Paper Mario is a 2007 platform action role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It is the third game in the Paper Mario series of Mario role-playing games.
The game departs from the gameplay featured in earlier Paper Mario titles, primarily featuring side scrolling platforming gameplay with role-playing elements. The player controls Mario and later Princess Peach, Bowser and Luigi, who each possess different abilities. The majority of the gameplay revolves around Mario's learned ability to "flip" between dimensions, which consists of switching between 3D and 2D perspectives in each level, allowing the player to maneuver around obstacles impassable in different views. The plot follows the four characters' quest to collect the eight Pure Hearts in order to prevent Count Bleck, the main antagonist, from destroying the universe.
The game was well-received, accumulating aggregate critical scores of 85.16% and 85% on GameRankings and Metacritic with many critics praising the game's humorous plot and writing. It has sold 2.28 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games on the Wii.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is an action-adventure hack and slash video game developed for the Wii video game system. It is the sequel to No More Heroes. It was directed by Suda51, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, published by Ubisoft and Rising Star Games, and was released on January 26, 2010 in North America, May 25, 2010 in Australia, May 28, 2010 in Europe and October 21, 2010 in Japan.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Sonic and the Secret Rings is a video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was released exclusively for the Wii on February 20, 2007 in North America; March 2 in Europe and March 15 in Japan. It is the first Sonic game for the console, released in place of an aborted attempt to port Sonic the Hedgehog. Secret Rings is a three-dimensional platform and action game whose plot follows the series' main character, Sonic the Hedgehog, on a quest to stop an evil genie named the Erazor Djinn. In addition to the basic platforming gameplay of previous Sonic titles, Secret Rings uses a system of experience points and levels, as well as special moves that are unlocked via leveling up.
Producer Yojiro Ogawa conceived the game to tap into the Wii Remote's capabilities. He chose the theme of Arabian Nights, using many elements of the stories in the game's setting, characters, and Middle Eastern-influenced music. Sega changed the title of the game several times, settling on Sonic and the Secret Rings to tie in the theme of Arabian Nights. Upon release, Secret Rings got mixed to positive reviews.

MadWorld

MadWorld is a beat 'em up video game developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega. It was released for the Wii on March 10, 2009, in North America, March 20 in Europe, March 26 in Australia, and February 10, 2010, in Japan. It was re-released in Australia on March 11, 2010, in Sega Australia's Welcome to Violence boxset, which also includes The House of the Dead: Overkill and The Conduit.

Mario Super Sluggers

Mario Super Sluggers, known in Japan as Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball, is a sports video game for the Wii developed by Namco Bandai Games and NOW Production, and published by Nintendo. It was previously known by the working title Super Mario Stadium Baseball. It is part of the Mario sports series, and the sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball for the Nintendo GameCube. Mario Super Sluggers was released in Japan on June 19, 2008 and in North America on August 25, 2008. It was unreleased in Europe and Australia, due to being in production at the same time as Mario Kart Wii that was released two months earlier, resulting in a limited release of this game, although an issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine has stated a Summer 2009 release, but it never happened. The game was later re-released in North America for $19.99 as part of the Nintendo Selects range.

Mario Strikers Charged

Mario Strikers Charged, known in Europe and Australia as Mario Strikers Charged Football, is a sports video game developed by Canadian developer Next Level Games and published by Nintendo for the Wii. This game was announced at the 2006 Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany as the sequel to Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCube. It was released on May 25, 2007 in Europe, June 7, 2007 in Australia and July 30, 2007 in North America.
The game supports the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, through which players can participate in online matches and tournaments. Upon its European release, it became the first Wii online game to be available outside of Japan. It was also the first Mario game released on the Wii and the first Mario game to be given a rating higher than E by the ESRB.

World of Goo

World of Goo is a puzzle video game developed and published by independent game developer 2D Boy. The game was first released on Microsoft Windows and Wii platforms on October 13, 2008, with releases on Mac OS X, Linux, and various mobile devices following in subsequent years.
The game was nominated for the Seumas McNally grand prize, Design Innovation Award, and Technical Excellence at the Independent Games Festival, and has gone on to win several other gaming awards since its release.
