The Best Wineries in France

List RulesVote up the top wineries to visit in France

Visiting a French winery should be a top-priority when planning your next trip to France. The best wineries in France include lovely places such as Loire and Rhône Valleys, and  the Champagne and Burgundy regions.

France is known for having many varieties of grapes, including merlot, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, pinot noir, and more. The most popular wine region in France is Bordeaux, a primarily red wine region most noted for its cabernets and merlots. Other French wine regions include Burgundy, Provence, Loire, and Rhône. Each of these regions are noted for particular grape varieties. The Rhône Valley is a primarily red wine region located along the Rhône River while Provence produces rosé wines and Champagne is known for its sparkling white wines.

In France, food is prepared to be accompanied by wine, and is a major part of French culture. Cheese and wine are two essential components to a French meal, often served a baguette. Not only is wine an essential beverage during meals, wine is also used for cooking and is used in pasta, meat, poultry, and other French cuisines. A popular French dish is "coq au vin." Chefs will use wine to marinate the chicken, and slowly simmer it on the stove to produce a tender cut.
