The Best Wolves in Film

Updated November 5, 2019 837 votes 358 voters 33.8k views8 items

List RulesNo werewolves at all, thank you very much.

There are lots of animals in the movies, but what animal is cooler than a wolf?! Wolves are like dogs, but even more awesome, in the same way that lions are basically just cats, except for the fact that they could probably eat you alive. But the wolf characters on this list are not just fearsome; sometimes they also seem like cool animals to hang out with!

Have you seen Dances with Wolves? Good. Then you know all about Two Socks. White Fang? Awesome, what a good wolf story, right? How about The Grey? Scary, huh?

Wolves in movies can be scary or adorable, it really just depends. Which of these film wolves do you think are super cool and which do you find terrifying? Please answer the question with your votes. Upvote the wolves that are just great and downvote the really mean wolves you hope never find their way into your residential neighborhood.

    The Jungle Book
In The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling wrote, "Akela, the great gray Lone Wolf, who led all the Pack by strength and cunning, lay out at full length on his rock, and below him sat forty or more wolves of every size and color." Akela is the leader of the wolves and generally pretty cool.

    The Jungle Book
The only wolf on this entire list to be voiced by Lupita Nyong'o! A caring protector, she raises Mowgli as one of her own in 2016's CGI-heavy, live action version of The Jungle Book.

    White Fang

    White Fang
A whole movie based on a whole book that was named after a wolf character? Awesome! White Fang was separated from his mother and went down a long road to domestication. Don't worry, there is a happy ending!

    Two Socks

    Dances with Wolves
Did you cry? Yes, you cried. Don't even try to deny it. Two Socks is always and forever one of the best animal companions in film and is also a great name for a pet of any kind.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch
Maugrim is not the cute and cuddle wolf companion type. Instead, he's Captain of the White Witch's Secret Police in the wondrous world of Narnia. Described as "a huge grey beast - its eyes flaming - far too big to be a dog," he really isn't any fun at all.

    The Legend of Lobo
What should you know about Lobo the wolf and star of this film? Well, he befriends a tortoise, chews an armadillo's ear (!!!), and is cornered by a rattlesnake. And that's just the beginning of his journey!

    George and Angeline

    Never Cry Wolf
George and Angeline are kind of weird names for wolves, but what can you do. This pair grows to have a mutual respect for Tyler, an Arctic researcher. Sadly, his nemesis is maybe responsible for their tragic death!

    Alpha Wolf

    The Grey
This wolf got in a fight with Liam Neeson. What else do you even want to know?
