Sometimes you don't want all the mythology and mess and just want to enjoy Mulder and Scully investigating something weird, but which episodes of The X-Files are just the monster, no conspiracy? We've compiled this list of every X-Files monster of the week episode for you to browse and vote on. Do you like "Tooms" the best, or is "Arcadia" your favorite episode of The X-Files? Whether it's another one of Scully's vacations going wrong - again - or Mulder hyper focusing on baseball, lake monsters, or vampires, monster of the week episodes are many an X-Files fan's favorite and are often scarier, more haunting, or funnier than the episodes that follow the mythology.

There doesn't have to be a specific monster to qualify as a "monster of the week" episode, it just needs to be unconnected to the wider mythology of The X-Files to qualify. Sometimes the monster is a clear cut thing like Jersey devils and sometimes it's just the general sadness of being unable to help the people we used to love.
