10 Things You Didn't Know About The Wookiee Bounty Hunter, Black Krrsantan

Wookiees are some of the most fascinating characters in all of science fiction, and that has a lot to do with Peter Mayhew and everyone's favorite co-pilot, Chewbacca. Like many of the characters depicted in the movies, Chewie, and by extension, Wookiees, have been expanded upon since A New Hope hit theaters in 1977. The almost unmentionable Star Wars Holiday Special gave Chewie a family and detailed some of aspects of Wookiee culture.

The comics, cartoons, and more have revealed many additional Wookiees over the years. Still, none have grasped as much attention as Black Krrsantan. Many fans got their first glimpse of the black-haired Wookiee in the second episode of The Book of Boba Fett. For many other fans, seeing such a beloved character in live action for the first time was a real treat. After all, Black Krrsantan had been depicted in comics for the better part of a decade prior.

Because he's so interesting, and also because little is known about him outside of devoted comic-reading fans, there's probably a lot of things you didn't know about Black Krrsantan. He's a Wookiee bounty hunter, and he's been involved with criminals, but he's so much more than that. This list aims to reveal as much about him as possible, so take a look down below, and if you learn something truly fascinating, be sure to give it an upvote before you go!

  • Krrsantan First Appeared In The 2015 'Darth Vader' Comics

Black Krrsantan's first live-action appearance came in the second episode of The Book of Boba Fett, but that was several years after he was introduced to Star Wars comic book fans. He first appeared in the first issue of Darth Vader, published by Marvel Comics in 2015.

In the story, he was hired by Darth Vader to track someone down for him, and he proved himself capable in this venture.

  • Krrsantan Was Exiled From Kashyyyk And Forcibly Trained As A Gladiator

When he was young, Black Krrsantan was forced to flee his homeworld of Kashyyyk. He disgraced the Wookiees in some way, though the details of this event have yet to be clarified in or out of the comics. When he was exiled, he found himself in the "employ" of a couple of slavers known as the Xonti brothers. Unlike all of their other combatants, Black Krrsantan volunteered to become a gladiator so he could fight in the pits.

The Xonti brothers trained the Wookiee to become a deadly fighter, and they did this by throwing their most skilled fighters into the ring with him. They trained him and several other fighters by throwing them up against a Sarlacc, swarms of tiny robots, and much more. Eventually, Black Krrsantan progressed through the "ranks" to become the heavyweight champion of the gladiator pits. It's because of this time in his life that Boba Fett referred to Krrsantan as a "gladiator" upon seeing him on Tatooine after he replaced Jabba the Hutt.

  • He Frequently Worked For Jabba The Hutt

When his days fighting in the gladiator pits were behind him, Black Krrsantan transitioned into a more respectable line of work: bounty hunting. It was through this venture that the Wookiee found himself in the employ of Lord Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. His first mission for Jabba was to track down a man who failed to pay his water tax, which is how he first came in contact with one Luke Skywalker. He was near the Lars moisture farm, and it was at this time that he captured Owen Lars as a means of drawing out the man who failed to pay.

Unfortunately for Black Krrsantan, that man was one "Ben" Kenobi, and he attempted to use a Jedi mind trick on him. The bounty hunter was too fast for that, and the two got into a fight. While the mission didn't go according to Jabba's wishes, Black Krrsantan remained in Jabba's employ for several years. After the destruction of the first Death Star at the Battle of Yavin, Jabba loaned Black Krrsantan to Darth Vader to help him root out an Imperial mole.

  • Krrsantan Has Cybernetic Enhancements

When Black Krrsantan first started fighting on behalf of the Xonti brothers, he did so with as much ferocity as you might expect from a Wookiee. While he was good, he could have been better, and despite the fact that he (along with all Wookiees) has sharp retractable claws, the Xonti brothers wanted to enhance him in several ways to increase his lethality in the gladiator pits.

To this end, the Xonti brothers enhanced Krrsantan's fists by filling his knuckles with metal. This increased the weight and durability of the Wookiee's knuckles, making him stronger and more dangerous. The Xonti brothers called this upgrade "permanent knuckle dusters," and they proved effective. Krrsantan was able to defeat another gladiator with a single punch, knocking him unconscious.

  • He Was Hired By Darth Vader To Find A Mole In The Imperial Ranks

When Black Krrsantan first met Darth Vader, it was during the Dark Lord of the Sith's trip to Tatooine after the first Death Star was destroyed. Vader was there to negotiate a trade deal with Jabba the Hutt, but he had business of his own, so he asked Jabba if he could borrow a couple of bounty hunters. Jabba sent him his best men: Boba Fett and Black Krrsantan.

Fett was tasked with finding the young Rebel pilot who blew up the Death Star, and he would eventually be successful in this effort. In fact, it was Boba Fett who told Darth Vader that Luke was his son by uttering a single word, "Skywalker."

As for Black Krrsantan, he was tasked with hunting down a mole in the Imperial ranks. The mole worked for Emperor Palpatine, and Vader wanted him found and brought to him. This was due to the ongoing distrust between Palpatine and Vader, and he needed information from the man. Krrsantan tracked down Cylo-IV and found out what he was up to. Vader had 0-0-0, his torture droid, get the information he needed.

  • Krrsantan Became A Frequent Collaborator With Doctor Aphra

When Black Krrsantan completed his contract for Darth Vader, he was summoned to Son-tuul alongside Beebox, Bossk, and IG-90 for a mission. When he arrived, he took a little time off by jumping into the fighting pits to become the champion (by beating other Wookiees to death). When he was finished dominating, he went to the local cantina alongside his fellow bounty hunters, where they met a rogue archaeologist named Dr. Aphra.

This became the first of many adventures Black Krrsantan would eventually go on with Doctor Aphra. They worked together so much that they developed a strong bond of friendship, which wasn't something the Wookiee did lightly. Their adventures included heists, saving one another from certain death, and much more. Eventually, he accepted a bounty of 20,000 credits to bring Aphra in. Still, she managed to persuade him to reconsider, at which time he blocked his fellow bounty hunters from taking his friend.
