The Boston, Massachusetts Freedom Trail is a mostly brick path leading to multiple historical sites within the city. Alvan T. Fuller

Alvan Tufts Fuller (February 27, 1878 – April 30, 1958) was an American businessman, politician, art collector, and philanthropist from Massachusetts.  He opened one of the first automobile dealerships in Massachusetts, which in 1920 was recognized as "the world's most successful auto dealership", and made him one of the state's wealthiest men.  Politically a Progressive Republican, he was elected a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1916, and served as a United States Representative from 1917 to 1921.
From 1925 to 1929 Fuller was Governor of Massachusetts, continuing the fiscally conservative and socially moderate policies of his predecessors.  In 1927 he was enveloped in the international controversy surrounding the trial and execution of Sacco and Vanzetti, Italian immigrant anarchists convicted of robbery and murder.  Fuller's handling of the affair, in which pressure was applied by both domestic and international sources seeking clemency for the two, effectively ended his political career.
Fuller was an avid collector of art, some of which has since been donated to museums in eastern New England, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  He founded the Fuller Foundation, a charity that supports a variety of causes in eastern Massachusetts and the seacoast region of New Hampshire.  Fuller Gardens, founded by him in North Hampton, New Hampshire, are now open to the public.

Alvin F. Sortwell

Alvin Foye Sortwell (July 21, 1854 – March 21, 1910) was a Massachusetts politician who served as the twenty sixth Mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Sortwell was born to Daniel Robinson Sortwell and Sophia Augusta (Foye) Sortwell in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 21, 1854. On December 31, 1879 Sortwell married Gertrude Winship Dailey, they had six children, Clara, Frances Augusta, Daniel Richard, Marion, Edward Carter and Alvin Foye Sortwell.  Edward Carter Sortwell joined the American Ambulance Field Service, Edward died in Salonika, Greece in November 1916 the result of being struck by a staff car while crossing a darkened alleyway.

Ashwin Madia

Jigar Ashwin Madia, known as Ashwin Madia, is an American attorney and Iraq War veteran who ran for the United States Congress in Minnesota's 3rd congressional district in 2008. He won the endorsement of the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party against other candidates including State Senator Terri Bonoff; the only announced candidate for the Republican nomination was Erik Paulsen.
His candidacy was announced after the incumbent, Jim Ramstad, announced his retirement in 2007, which gave an opportunity for both major parties to field potential candidates. The district was ranked as one of the top ten most likely to switch parties in 2008. However, after a challenging campaign, Madia received 40.9% of the vote and the district remained in the Republican column.
Madia owns and manages an employment law and civil rights firm, Madia Law LLC, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has served as the interim chairman of veteran advocacy organization VoteVets.org.

Benjamin Franklin Haines  (November 25, 1876 – 1942) was a Massachusetts attorney and politician and a Florida businessman.  Haines served as a member of the Medford, Massachusetts Board of Aldermen, the Massachusetts House of Representatives, as the eighth Mayor of Medford, Massachusetts and as the Mayor of Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin  (January 17, 1706 [O.S. January 6, 1705] –  April 17, 1790) was an American polymath and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Franklin was a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, Freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, humorist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As an inventor, he is known for the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin stove, among other inventions. He founded many civic organizations, including the Library Company, Philadelphia's first fire department and the University of Pennsylvania.Franklin earned the title of "The First American" for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity, initially as an author and spokesman in London for several colonies. As the first United States Ambassador to France, he exemplified the emerging American nation. Franklin was foundational in defining the American ethos as a marriage of the practical values of thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, self-governing institutions, and opposition to authoritarianism both political and religious, with the scientific and tolerant values of the Enlightenment. In the words of historian Henry Steele Commager, "In a Franklin could be merged the virtues of Puritanism without its defects, the illumination of the Enlightenment without its heat." To Walter Isaacson, this makes Franklin "the most accomplished American of his age and the most influential in inventing the type of society America would become."Franklin became a successful newspaper editor and printer in Philadelphia, the leading city in the colonies, publishing the Pennsylvania Gazette at the age of 23. He became wealthy publishing this and Poor Richard's Almanack, which he authored under the pseudonym "Richard Saunders". After 1767, he was associated with the Pennsylvania Chronicle, a newspaper that was known for its revolutionary sentiments and criticisms of British policies.
He pioneered and was first president of Academy and College of Philadelphia which opened in 1751 and later became the University of Pennsylvania. He organized and was the first secretary of the American Philosophical Society and was elected president in 1769. Franklin became a national hero in America as an agent for several colonies when he spearheaded an effort in London to have the Parliament of Great Britain repeal the unpopular Stamp Act. An accomplished diplomat, he was widely admired among the French as American minister to Paris and was a major figure in the development of positive Franco-American relations. His efforts proved vital for the American Revolution in securing shipments of crucial munitions from France.
He was promoted to deputy postmaster-general for the British colonies in 1753, having been Philadelphia postmaster for many years, and this enabled him to set up the first national communications network. During the revolution, he became the first United States Postmaster General. He was active in community affairs and colonial and state politics, as well as national and international affairs. From 1785 to 1788, he served as governor of Pennsylvania. He initially owned and dealt in slaves but, by the 1750s, he argued against slavery from an economic perspective and became one of the most prominent abolitionists.
His colorful life and legacy of scientific and political achievement, and his status as one of America's most influential Founding Fathers, have seen Franklin honored more than two centuries after his death on coinage and the $100 bill, warships, and the names of many towns, counties, educational institutions, and corporations, as well as countless cultural references.

Benjamin Gorham

Benjamin Gorham (February 13, 1775 – September 27, 1855) was a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts.
He was the son of Nathaniel Gorham, who served as one of the Presidents of the Continental Congress. Benjamin was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He pursued preparatory studies, graduated from Harvard University in 1795, and studied law. When he was admitted to the bar he commenced practice in Boston. From 1814 to 1818 he served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and then turned to the Massachusetts State Senate, where he served from May 26, 1819 until he resigned on January 10, 1821. He was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Sixteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Jonathan Mason; he was re-elected when the term expired, and served until March 3, 1823.
Afterwards he returned to the State senate for one term beginning May 28, 1823, before being elected as an Adams candidate to the Twentieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Daniel Webster and then reelected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress and served from July 23, 1827, to March 3, 1831. After a term filled by Nathan Appleton, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress (March 4, 1833 - March 3, 1835). Afterward he served again a member of the State house of representatives in 1841 and resumed the practice of law.
He died in Boston in 1855, aged 80, and was interred in the Phipps Street Burying Ground in Charlestown.

Benjamin Thompson

Benjamin Thompson (August 5, 1798 – September 24, 1852) was a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts.
Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Thompson attended the public schools, and then engaged in mercantile pursuits.  He served as member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives 1830–1831 and 1833–1836.  He served in the Massachusetts Senate in 1841.
Thompson was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1845 – March 3, 1847).  He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1846.
Thompson was elected to the Thirty-second Congress and served from March 4, 1851, until his death in Charlestown, Massachusetts, September 24, 1852.  He was interred in the Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C..

Bob Taft

Robert Alphonso Taft III  (born January 8, 1942) is an American politician and attorney.
He is a member of the Taft political dynasty and served as the 67th Governor of Ohio between 1999 and 2007.  Prior to that he served as Ohio Secretary of State under George Voinovich.
After leaving office, Taft started working for the University of Dayton beginning August 15, 2007. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Carl McCall

Herman Carl McCall (born October 17, 1935) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. A former New York State Comptroller and New York State Senator, McCall was the Democratic candidate for Governor of New York in 2002. McCall was the first African-American to be elected New York State Comptroller. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and he currently serves on the board of directors of several corporations. Since October 17, 2011, McCall has served as chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees.

Charles Foster "Charlie" Bass (born January 8, 1952) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for New Hampshire's 2nd congressional district from 1995 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2013. Charles Colson

Charles Wendell Colson (October 16, 1931 – April 21, 2012) served as Special Counsel to President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1970. Once known as President Nixon's "hatchet man," Colson gained notoriety at the height of the Watergate scandal, for being named as one of the Watergate Seven, and pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for attempting to defame Pentagon Papers defendant Daniel Ellsberg. In 1974, he served seven months in the federal Maxwell Prison in Alabama as the first member of the Nixon administration to be incarcerated for Watergate-related charges.Colson became an Evangelical Christian in 1973. His mid-life religious conversion sparked a radical life change that led to the founding of his non-profit ministry Prison Fellowship and, three years later, Prison Fellowship International, to a focus on Christian worldview teaching and training around the world. Colson was also a public speaker and the author of more than 30 books. He was the founder and chairman of The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, which is "a research, study, and networking center for growing in a Christian worldview", and includes Colson's daily radio commentary, BreakPoint, heard on more than 1,400 outlets across the United States (and continues to be broadcast with an alternating panel from the Colson Center).Colson was a principal signer of the 1994 Evangelicals and Catholics Together ecumenical document signed by leading Evangelical Protestants and Roman Catholic leaders in the United States.
Colson received 15 honorary doctorates, and in 1993 was awarded the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, the world's largest annual award (over US$1 million) in the field of religion, given to a person who "has made an exceptional contribution to affirming life's spiritual dimension". He donated this prize to further the work of Prison Fellowship, as he did all his speaking fees and royalties. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President George W. Bush.
