For many gamers, the greatest villain of all time doesn't get much better than Mario's main foe: Bowser. The monster has kidnapped Princess Peach more times than you can count on two hands. But even if the old Koopa King keeps kidnapping Mario's main squeeze, there somehow doesn't seem like there's too much bad blood between. For starters, they both enjoy playing go-karts together. And considering the fact that Bowser's appeared in so many of Mario's games over the years, it only makes sense for numerous Bowser fan theories to pop up.
Casual and hardcore gamers alike have come up with their own conspiracies to further fill in the blanks about the legendary villain. Some may not stand up to scrutiny; others might actually make a whole hell of a lot of sense. But out of the theories on this list, which ones do you like best?

Peach Is Straight-Up Having An Affair With BowserPhoto: Nintendo
Redditor /u/TitanicMan offers the fan theory based on the original Super Mario Bros. game. Every time you think you have saved Peach, it turns out she's in another castle. The theory claims that Peach keeps escaping to continue her trist with Bowser, which would explain how you can defeat Bowser multiple times in the same game, but he just keeps coming back. They stage these elaborate set-ups with Peach playing up the kidnapping angle so that no one becomes the wiser.
I think, that Peach ran away on purpose and played up the 'I've been kidnapped' angle. She and Bowser were at every single castle, but she made it out just in time and Toad could lead Mario through more sh*t. Once Mario gets to the last castle, she fails to escape this time, thinks quickly, and sends Mario off to "save" her again. All the while, Bowser is still clearly alive somewhere in the castle considering.345Does this make sense?
The Reason Bowser And The Koopa Kingdom Need So Much Lava Is Because Everyone Is Cold-BloodedPhoto: Nintendo
Have you ever wondered why there's always so much lava around Bowser's kingdom? Redditor /u/Pasta-hobo suggests this is due to the fact Bowser and his minions are all lizards/dinosaurs.
Koopas are turtles/lizards, which means they're cold blooded, which means they rely on external heat to maintain their body. Lizards love laying on hot rocks, and the Koopa kingdom has lots of Lava and stone bricks.287Does this make sense?
Bowser's Not A Real KoopaPhoto: Nintendo
Redditor /u/PolloMagnifico created a lengthy fan theory about Bowser's true origins. He's the ruler of the Koopa Kingdom, but he's clearly not a genuine Koopa. The theory basically states that Bowser is a genetic hybrid between a Yoshi and a Koopa due to the fact the two species grew up together on the same landlocked island. Or at the very least, it's possible the two species share a common ancestor, and that's where Bowser and his kind come into play. Here's what they say:
Bowser has none of the features of a True Koopa. His claws are thick, but tapered to sharp points. This is possibly a result of him filing them down to appear more 'fierce', but it still stands that they're not the same short thick claws common to the Koopas. He has a blunted, flat muzzle instead of a beak which, along with his sharp teeth, indicate that he is likely not a herbivore. In fact the lack of any flat “grinding” teeth would seem to indicate that he might very well be an obligate carnivore, which is further supported by Bowser's Inside Story when he claims that eating vegetables gives him a “tummy ache”.227Does this make sense?
Bowser And Mario Are Actually Just Friendly RivalsPhoto: Nintendo
There's a longstanding question among Mario fans. Why is Mario fine with Bowser racing go-karts and playing tennis with him and his friends when he's constantly trying to overthrow the monarchy? Redditor /u/luckjes112 suggests that Bowser isn't the big bad everyone seems to think he is. Instead, he and Mario are just friendly rivals who occasionally get serious with one another when Bowser occasionally crosses the line.
And the reason Bowser even wants to race go-karts with Mario and friends is that he's more concerned with beating Mario at anything. Even if he has to be in a silly car to do it, Bowser wants to beat Mario at anything, and no one in Mario's crew even really takes him seriously.205Does this make sense?
