List RulesVote up the most interesting tidbits about the beloved cabbage man.

We all know that the Cabbage Merchant is basically the main protagonist and Aang is the evil villain (because really, all Cabbage Dude ever really wanted to do was sell his wares in peace without some cosmic bender ruining everything), but what else is lurking underneath the not-so-cool facade of our favorite seller of greens? What exactly makes Cabbage Man tick, and why did the Gaang get away with charges of “malicious destruction of cabbages” in Omashu (sadly, we will never know)? Read on for more cabbage-y goodness!

    He’s An Actual Bad-A

The cabbage merchant traveled the world at his age with no special powers and no particularly valuable wealth. He braved the Serpent’s Pass, steered clear of the Fire Nation, and somehow got into the major cities to sell his wares without any hiccups (except when Aang was around). He is also the only known character honored with a cool statue in Republic City despite not being part of Team Avatar.

Cabbage Man’s Cabbages Had an Infestation (Not Just An Aang-festation)

When the cabbage merchant was in line for the ferry to enter Ba Sing Se, he was denied entry because according to the approval officer, one cabbage slug could destroy the entire ecosystem of Ba Sing Se. His cabbages were then confiscated and eaten by a platypus bear, but in a blink-and-you-miss-it-screencap, you can actually see a cabbage slug flying off from his cabbages. The horror!

Selling Cabbages Wasn’t His Lifelong Dream

With his dedication to his cabbages in every appearance, it’s a surprise that Cabbage Man actually initially wanted to sell cantaloupes. The whole cabbage thing was only temporary, as “the REAL action’s in cantaloupes!”

Cabbage Man Wasn’t Initially A Recurring Character

We obviously all love the cabbage merchant to bits - in fact, he’s practically part of the family, if only the Gaang wouldn’t unintentionally target him so much. What’s interesting is that Cabbage Man was meant to be a one-time deal in just one episode, but he must’ve stubbornly refused to be let go - hence, his mainstay status in the Avatar universe. He really is, after all, one of the most resilient characters in the show, given that he was still able to make his way inside both Omashu and Ba Sing Se in the midst of all the restricted entry. Talk about Earth Kingdom mettle!
