The Embassy Mission In 'Modern Warfare' Is Inspired By The Film '13 Hours'
From Redditor u/I-Identify-Guns:
Call of Duty games have always been rife with references to war movies, and the newest iteration (Modern Warfare) is no exception. In the mission "The Embassy," the large firefight at the compound is largely inspired by 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. Which, in my personal opinion, is a fantastic film.

The Skull From 'Ghosts' References The Backstory Of The Game's Antagonist
From Redditor u/Kyle102997:
This skull image from Call of Duty Ghosts is actually a reference to the main villain's time spent in the jungle. Roarke was said to have been kept in a hole as he had his mind broken, and the skull is us looking up from his perspective. The eyes are meant to be two people looking down at him.
