On March 31, 2017, Netflix released the teen drama13 Reasons Why. The show centers on the suicide of Hannah Baker. The teenager gives her friend Clay Jensen a series of tapes that reveal all the reasons why she killed herself. On May 18, 2018, Netflix released Season 2 of the drama, despite the controversy surrounding the series. There are also plenty of other shows like 13 Reasons Why that handle these heavier themes.

He played Jerry Grant, Jr. on the ABC drama Scandal, was one of the lead characters in the film Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and had a recurring role as Clay Norman on Saving Grace. The actor also had minor parts on Lost, Men of a Certain Age, Awake, and the film Prisoners.
Minnette is not only an actor, he also plays guitar and sings. His indie trio band Wallows appeared on a May 2018 episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden. He formed the band with two friends he grew up with.

13 Reasons Why Role: Justin Foley
Justin Foley is on two of Hannah's tapes and is the first and the ninth reason why she committed suicide. Brandon Flynn started acting in 2016, where he appeared in one episode of the political comedy series BrainDead. Additionally, Flynn was cast to star in the third season of Nic Pizzolatto's HBO crime drama True Detective.
In 2017, singer Sam Smith confirmed he was in a relationship with Flynn. The pop singer admitted that he had a boyfriend during an interview with Ellen on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Since then, the couple have been spotted together publicly and often appear on each other's social media accounts.
Olivia Baker is Hannah's grieving mother in the Netflix series. TV audiences most likely remember Kate Walsh from her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. The character so popular she spawned the spin-off drama Private Practice, which ran for six seasons. Walsh also appeared on several other television series including Fargo and Bad Judge.

13 Reasons Why Role: Zach Dempsey
Zach Dempsey appears on Side A, Tape 4 on Hannah's list of the reasons why she killed herself. You may have seen the Singapore-born Ross Butler on the CW series Riverdale, where he played Archie's rival and school bully Reggie Mantle. Unfortunately for Butler, his commitment to 13 Reasons Why forced the producers of Riverdale to recast the role of role.
"We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” explainedRiverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Charles Melton (American Horror Story: Hotel and Glee) was recast to play Reggie for Season 2 of Riverdale.
Butler also appeared on the TV series Chasing Life, Teen Wolf, and K.C. Undercover. The actor can also be seen in the thriller Hacker's Game Redux and the DC Comics superhero movie Shazam!, which is set for a 2019 release.
Bryce Walker is a jock who co-captains the football and baseball team. He is also the 12th reason why Hannah commits suicide. Walker, who rapes both Jessica and Hannah, is definitely the villain of the series.
Justin Prentice received a lot of Twitter hate for the role but knew how important the sexual assault scenes were to get right. “It was an emotional scene and an important topic. We felt we owed it to rape survivors. It’s our responsibility to tell people how terrible this is. I can’t even imagine what these girls go through, their ordeal,” he says.
Prentice has appeared on several different television series, including iCarly, NCIS, Glee, Preacher, and Castle. He was also a series regular on the Reba McEntire comedy Malibu Country and the high school dramedy Awkward.
