Most Harry Potter fans have taken that Pottermore test, or one of the litany of quizzes that sort Muggles into Hogwarts houses. Everyone wants to know where they fit within the parameters of the four houses – the Sorting Ceremony is like an extremely fun version of a personality test. But what about famous HP fans? Sorting celebrities into Hogwarts houses can be an entertaining challenge.
Which Hogwarts houses would celebrities be in? Many spotlight-loving actors or actresses seem like surefire Gryffindors, swaggering daredevils who would be at home on the Quidditch pitch. But don't underestimate the strong Slytherin streak in many stars – achieving success takes ambition, after all.
Well, ask and ye shall receive. Here are some notable people, sorted into Hogwarts houses by their personality traits. Some of these celebs in Harry Potter houses might disagree with their choices – but they'll just have to take it up with the Sorting Hat.
Eddie Redmayne is a staunch defender of the Hufflepuff house, which, let's face it, is the house that is almost universally dumped on by the entire Harry Potter fandom. Redmayne, who plays Hufflepuff Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, even came out with a PSA that launched a staunch defense of the house:
"For far too long now, Hufflepuffs have been victimized. They call us boring. They call us beige. They say we’re the nice guys. But you know what? You know what I see in Hufflepuffs? I see loyalty. I see fierce friendship. We are hardworking, we are compassionate, and at the end of the day, we’re going to do the right thing, and not because of the glory. Not because of the glory, but for the greater good.”
Yeah, that's right – the woman who portrays Hermione Granger, one of the most famous Gryffindors in the Harry Potter universe, is actually a Ravenclaw.
Watson is incredibly intelligent; while filming the Harry Potter movies, she got straight As in her A-Levels before attending the prestigious Oxford University in England. Shortly after that she attended Brown University. Oh, and she's spoken at the United Nations about feminism.
Watson is even smarter than uber-witch Hermione, so it only makes sense to sort her into the brainiest house at Hogwarts.
President Donald Trump had every opportunity, a sizeable fortune, and every chance to prove himself a success. Yet the guy has filed for bankruptcy multiple times. He's had a number of failed business ventures, despite having that Trump name brand behind him. Sure, he managed to become president thanks to a quirk of the American electoral system, but that doesn't discount all his past failures.
In other words, Trump is a squib – a person born of a wizarding family with zero magical abilities. Trump came from money, but has suspect business acumen. Squib.
Jennifer Lawrence is a Gryffindor through and through. She embodies the best and worst parts of the house: she's confident, outspoken, brash and, at times, irritating.
Lawrence is undeniably charismatic, but she can also be... a lot. She seems like she's probably the most fun to be around but also, like you'd need to take a break from that charm offensive from time to time. Like most Gryffindors, she's brave and charismatic but also kind of a showboat.
