The Peace Corps is a volunteer program run by the United States government, and it generally works to improve social and economic development around the world. The organization has long attracted people from all over the global landscape, with a number of politicians, writers, and performing artists having once been members.

Chris Matthews, for example, was a Peace Corps volunteer stationed in Swaziland from 1968-70. When he returned from serving in the Peace Corps, he got into politics working as an aide for U.S. Senator Frank Moss. He first hosted his own talk show in 1994. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Swaziland from 1983-85.

Several famous women also served in the Peace Corps. Professional wrestler Chyna served as a volunteer in Costa Rica from 1993-95, while politician Donna Shalala volunteered in Iran from 1962-64.
