The world of celebrities is built around many strange factors. The strangest of them all is that people pay money to watch you while you do whatever it is that made you a celebrity, whether it's singing, dancing, acting, or in the case of Kim Kardashian, just existing. One thing that comes with celebrity is ego, and when that ego is blemished, especially by another celebrity with possibly an even bigger ego, you get celebrity beef. There have been feuds between famous people throughout history, but none were anywhere near as monumental as the beefs on this list. These are the biggest celebrity beefs of all time.
Celebrity fights can be incredibly entertaining. Thanks to Twitter and Instagram, when celebrities fight with each other these days, it plays out in front of the whole world. What used to be Hollywood gossip is now out there for the world to see. Sometimes it’s exciting, but other times, we just want everyone to make up and be friends — we’re looking at you, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. Some of the celebrity feuds on this list have been going on for over a decade and show no signs of slowing down, while others just exploded out of nowhere, suddenly joining the ranks of biggest celebrity feuds of all time.
Which beef was the biggest and most entertaining of all time? Leave a comment telling us which feud you think was the most enthralling, or tell us about a feud that we may have left out.
At the 2009 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift won an award for the best Female Video, and during her acceptance speech, Kanye hopped on stage, took the mic from her hands, and uttered the immortal words "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time." Supposedly, Swift was seen crying backstage. After years of passive aggressive beefing, Taylor and Kanye finally buried the hatchet with the help of Jay-Z.
But then, Life of Pablo happened. Kanye dropped the new album at the beginning of 2016, and included a lyric about Swift. In the song West raps, "I feel like me and Taylor might still [sleep together] / I made [her] famous." Yikes. When Swift said the lyric was wildly misogynistic, West said that he ran the line by her and she approved. But Swift's representation said otherwise.
Months later, Kim Kardashian posted a series of videos to Snapchat to defend her husband's use of the Swift line. Apparently, the Wests had taped Kanye's conversation with Taylor when he called to ask her if he could use the line. In the video, you can hear Swift thanking Kanye for being considerate enough to run the line by her. In fact, she seems downright cool with the whole thing.
Taylor posted a response to Instagram. She said, "Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me 'that [witch]' in his song? It doesn't exist because it never happened. You don't get to control someone's emotional response to being called 'that [witch]' in front of the entire world." Guess this feud isn't quite over.
In an interview with Stephen Colbert in December 2015, Jennifer Lawrence made a joking reference to Lindsay Lohan's poor track record when it comes to showing up to set on time, as well as her history of "exhaustion" probably caused by alcohol and drugs. She said, "I'm a puker. I don't stop working because I am a show pony. I don't have a choice. So I just keep going until my body is like, 'If we don't make her barf or pass out, she won't stop.' I get like, Lindsay Lohan-grade exhaustion, but without any drugs or alcohol. I'm always in bed early. I'm still tired."Lohan's family came to her defense. Sister Aliana Tweeted, "I never breathe life into negativity but I stand by my family. Disappointed in Jennifer Lawrence. You lost a fan." Lohan herself replied to Aliana's Tweet, saying "Thank you sister... Maybe who you're referring to should learn to support others like #mayaangelou" She added a picture of an Angelou poem. It said, "You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise."
In 2012, this R&Beef got started over Rihanna, the hip-pop ingenue whom both men had dated. The biggest shot fired in the fight was when the two stars' entourages tore up a club in New York City, a club that later sued them for $16 million. Both have since claimed they're no longer angry, but this beef has been on and off more than a light bulb.
Sometime around 2012, former Christian act Katy and erstwhile country singer Taylor stopped being friends, became frenemies, and then went full enemies. We think it started when Perry started dating Swift's ex John Mayer, but the beef really heated up when a trio of dancers who once worked for Perry started working for Swift, and then were hired from under her to dance for Perry once again. Do we smell beef?
