In the year of our Lord April 20, 2018, Kanye West posted a series of tweets that some described as a breakdown, and others described as a breakthrough. Ye urged the world to “strive for universal consciousness not segregated consciousness,” and proclaimed, “style is genderless.” Five days later, Yeezy’s pseudo-philosophical positive platitudes on Twitter took a grim turn when he bragged he and Donald Trump were “brothers” who shared “dragon energy.” The last thing anyone expected from the artist behind the tracks “New Slaves” and “On Sight” was a Kanye West Twitter rant offering support to Donald Trump, a man with ties to misogynistic and racist groups.
Fans were shocked, but even more so were West’s celebrity friends who found the rapper and fashionista’s bold claims shocking. Some celebrities responded that they were “done” with West, other celebrities asked him to elucidate his claims, while others stated the whole thing was a publicity stunt to promote the two albums he’s planning to release in 2018.
He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
Now when he spoke out about Trump... Most people (including myself) have very different feelings & opinions about this. But this is HIS opinion. I believe in people being able to have their own opinions, even if really different from mine— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) April 25, 2018
He never said he agrees with his politics
After Kanye tweeted he and President Trump both have "dragon energy" and that the "mob" can't make West not love the President, Kim Kardashian West stepped in to ask her husband to clarify his statements on Trump. West acquiesced and admitted while he doesn't agree with everything Trump does, he does "100% agree" with himself.
Kim then sent out some tweets to admonish people online for piling on Kanye and bringing up his mental illness.see more on Kim Kardashian
Rather than tweet his displeasure for Kanye's alignment with the alt-right, the musician and actor texted Ye asking the rapper to rethink his position. He respectfully brought up Kanye's position as one of the most influential artists of his time, and explained how hurtful Trump's policies are.
Kanye responded by telling Legend bringing up his fans was using fear tactics to "manipulate" his free thought. Then he took a screenshot of the conversation and posted it online.

What does Frank Ocean think about this whole Kanye Twitter thing? He definitely has an opinion but you'll have to project your feelings about West, Ocean, and the state of American politics onto his vague Tumblr post.
On April 26, 2018, Ocean posted a screen shot of the Mike Myers and Kanye West during a 2005 Hurricane Katrina benefit. You may remember the moment — the one where West infamously said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
The post could be a reminder that West says whatever he's thinking in the moment and deals with the outcome later, or Ocean could be saying that West has changed dramatically in two decades. "How have you changed? Would you still vote the same way as you did in 2004?" Ocean's Tumblr post asks as it silently gathers likes and reblogs.see more on Frank Ocean
People were hoping Trump wasn't going to chime in with his thoughts on West's "dragon energy" comment, but thinking Donald Trump won't comment on the most famous person in the world mentioning him is a pipe dream.
After West posted a tweet showing his MAGA hat signed by none other than the Donald himself, the President retweeted the pic along with a predictable "MAGA!"
In a Thursday morning interview with Fox and Friends, Trump said West has "good taste" and that "Kanye looks and he sees black unemployment at the lowest it’s been in the history of our country." Trump then complimented West on a completely imagined Yeezy quote: "He’s smart. He says, ‘You know what, Trump is doing a much better job than the Democrats did.'"see more on Donald Trump
