From the alien character design of The Predator to the subtle visual details in The Matrix, action movies always impress with their makeup. These details aren't always easy to spot, however, but thankfully fans online are pointing out some of the best examples out there. In Mad Max: Fury Road, for example, as Nux regains his humanity over the course of the journey, the black paint on his body fades away. In Deadpool 2, the use of heavy makeup helps disguise a couple of cameos. Matt Damon and Alan Tudyk play a pair of men who unfortunately cross paths with Cable. Sometimes the makeup actually ends up informing the actor's choices. In The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger's Joker has a tick where he frequently licks his lips. This wasn't just an acting choice, however. Ledger licked his prosthetics to keep them attached to his face.

In The Terminator, after the shootout in TechNoir, the T-101 chases Kyle and Sarah. It climbs over a car engulfed in flame, burning its eyebrows off. This subtle change in the Terminator's appearance makes it look more menacing and less human.

Ledger Licks His Prosthetic Lips To Keep Them On In 'The Dark Knight'
In The Dark Knight, Joker is constantly licking his lips. This is actually because of the prosthetic scars that Heath Ledger wore. They kept falling off, so Heath would lick his lips to keep them in place. Gradually, it became a part of the Joker’s character.

Red Skull's Real Skin Peeks Out In 'The First Avenger'
In Captain America: The First Avenger, you can see Schmidt's red skin hiding under his fake face in this one shot and he even itches against the synthetic skin later on in the film. Nice little detail.
In Spider-Man 3, while he was cleaning the proposal ring, you can briefly see the scar on Peter’s hand from where he was bitten by the spider in the first movie.
