Seattle, Washington has far and away the highest minimum wage of any U.S. city. With the federal minimum wage set at $7.25 an hour (for untipped positions), and the highest state minimum set at $9.32 in Washington, Seattle's $15 seems staggering. But many other cities have high minimum wages as well. Some states have even raised the minimum wage across the board. In November 2018, Missouri voted to raise the minimum wage from $8.85 to $12 by 2023, while Arkansas voted to raise it from $8.50 to $11 by 2021. There are many factors that go into a city's analysis of the minimum wage its people should be paid, including population, population density, median wage, cost of living, and many more.
Many U.S. presidents have fought to raise the federal minimum wage but officials in the cities on this list have achieved their goals of high minimum wages, that offer even the lowest paid employees a reasonable income.
Below are the American cities with the highest minimum wages, with their respective state's minimum wage also listed, for comparison.
