But perhaps one of the strangest prescribed methods of birth control was everyone's favorite soft drink, Coca Cola. You heard correctly, people used Coca Cola in order to prevent pregnancy.

Given the fact many used the soft drink for a variety of health problems ranging from depression to sexual impotence, it isn't that surprising people considered using it as a form of contraception.

During the '50s and '60s when contraception was both expensive and hard to come by, women sought out anything that might reduce their risk of pregnancy. And so along came Coca Cola.

Though people found Cola to be ineffective as a form of birth control, many discovered another Cola product actually did exhibit some spermicidal effects. Today however, you're better off just drinking Cola for refreshment and the caffeine.
