Fans of the critically acclaimed FX series Fargo know that the show isn't simply just an adaptation of the 1996 film of the same name. Fargo is a tribute to the mythical world of the Coen Brothers (aka The "Coen-verse"). Noah Hawley loves to play within their realm of storytelling, referencing themes and characters from various Coen films all throughout the series. Most of these references are sprinkled into the story allegorically but, in a show as well crafted as Fargo, you are bound to see some visual nods as well.

Here are some of the best Easter eggs from the Coen-verse in the Fargo series.

  • 1. The Bowling Alley ('The Big Lebowski')

In season three, Nikki Swango finds herself in a mystical bowling alley similar to the one "The Dude" spends most of his time in.

  • 2. The Briefcase ('Fargo')

The briefcase that Stavros digs up in season one is in fact the same briefcase that Carl Showalter (Steve Buscemi) buries near the end of the film in Fargo. This is one of the more blatant references in the series.

  • 3. "You Got A Panty On Your Head" ('Raising Arizona')

The line "you've got a panty on your head" from season four is the same line from Raising Arizona when H. I. McDunnough (Nicolas Cage) tries to commit a robbery while wearing a pantyhose.

  • 4. It's All In The Color ('Inside Llewyn Davis')

The visual style of season three was created to match the muted color scheme of Inside Llewyn Davis which both used softer, warmer colors like yellow and grey. Fans complained about the "desaturated" tone as it was not as crisp as the previous two seasons.
