In case you haven't already guessed, sometimes that favorite crashes and burns.That was the case for all of these bowl game upsets but just like some bowl games are more meaningful than others, some of these upsets are more memorable as well. The Ohio State Buckeyes football team is a collegiate football team that competes as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, representing The Ohio State University in the East Division of the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State has played their home games at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio since 1922.
The Buckeyes are recognized by the university and NCAA has having won eight national championships along with 37 conference championships, three division championships, 10 undefeated seasons, and six perfect seasons of having no losses or ties.
Football was introduced to the university by George Cole and Alexander S. Lilley in 1890. Ohio State was a football independent from 1890 to 1901 before joining the Ohio Athletic Conference as a charter member in 1902. The Buckeyes won two conference championships while members of the OAC and in 1912 became members of the Big Ten Conference.
Ohio State won their first national championship in 1942 under head coach Paul Brown.
Following World War II, Ohio State saw sparse success on the football field with three separate coaches and in 1951 hired Woody Hayes to coach the team.

The Clemson Tigers football team, known traditionally as the "Clemson University Fighting Tigers", represents Clemson University in the sport of American football. The Tigers compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Formed in 1896, the program has achieved a Consensus Division I Football National Championship, 18 conference championships, 5 undefeated seasons, 3 divisional titles since 2005, has produced 68 All-Americans, 15 Academic All-Americans, and 169 NFL players. Clemson has had six members inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Clemson University has the 29th highest ranked college football program in history when calculated by the win/loss ratio. When calculated by sheer number of wins Clemson ranks 30th with 689 total wins in program history.
With 18 total conference titles, Clemson is one of the founding members of the ACC. For a number of years Clemson held the most titles at 14. In 2014 though, FSU defeated Georgia Tech to earn their 15th ACC title and bypassed Clemson in this category.

The Oklahoma Sooners football program is a college football team that represents the University of Oklahoma. The team is currently a member of the Big 12 Conference, which is in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The program began in 1895 and is the most successful program since World War II with the most wins and the highest winning percentage since 1945. The program has 7 national championships, 44 conference championships, 154 All-Americans, and five Heisman Trophy winners. In addition, the school has had five coaches and 17 players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and holds the record for the longest winning streak in Division I-FBS history with 47 straight victories. Oklahoma is also the only program that has had four coaches with 100+ wins, including current head coach Bob Stoops. They became the sixth NCAA FBS team to win 800 games when they defeated Utah State on Sept. 4th, 2010. Games are played at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.

The Penn State Nittany Lions football team represents the Pennsylvania State University in college football. The Nittany Lions compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the Big Ten Conference, which they joined in 1994 after playing as an Independent from their founding through 1993.
Established in 1887, the Nittany Lions have achieved numerous on-field successes, the most notable of which include two consensus national championships, three Big Ten Conference Championships, and 45 appearances in college bowl games, with a postseason bowl record of 28-15-2. The Nittany Lions play their home games at Beaver Stadium, located on-campus in University Park, Pennsylvania. With an official seating capacity of 106,572, Beaver Stadium is the second-largest stadium in the western hemisphere, behind only Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The team is currently coached by James Franklin.

The Oregon Ducks football program is a college football team for the University of Oregon, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The team competes at the NCAA Division I level in the FBS and is a member of the Pac-12 Conference (Pac-12). Known as the Ducks, the team was commonly called the Webfoots until the mid-1960s. The first football team was fielded in 1894. Oregon plays its home games at the 54,000 seat Autzen Stadium in Eugene; its main rivals are the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington Huskies.  The Ducks and Beavers historically end each regular season with the Civil War rivalry game in late November.

The Wisconsin Badgers football team is the intercollegiate football team of University of Wisconsin–Madison. The Badgers have competed in the Big Ten Conference since its formation in 1896. They play their home games at Camp Randall Stadium, the fourth-oldest stadium in college football. Wisconsin has had two Heisman Trophy winners, Alan Ameche and Ron Dayne, and have had nine former players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. As of January 1, 2015, the Badgers have an all-time record of 664–483–53.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers football team is the college football team at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The Mountaineers have competed in the Sun Belt Conference since 2014. Appalachian plays its home games in Kidd Brewer Stadium, which is named after Kidd Brewer, whose 1937 squad was unbeaten and unscored upon during the regular season.
The Mountaineers are the first FCS team to win three straight national championships since the playoffs began in 1978. They are also the first Division I program to win three consecutive national championships since Army accomplished the feat in 1944, 1945, and 1946, and the first Division I school in modern times to claim three straight undisputed national titles. Appalachian became the first FCS team to ever receive votes in the final Associated Press college football poll on January 8, 2008. The Mountaineers received five points in the poll.
At the conclusion of the 2008 season, Armanti Edwards became the Mountaineers' first Walter Payton Award winner, given to the most outstanding FCS offensive player.

The Boise State Broncos football program represents Boise State University in college football and competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The Broncos play their home games on campus at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, and their head coach is Bryan Harsin. The program is 12–6 in bowl games since 1999, including a 3–0 record in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Miami Hurricanes football team represents the University of Miami in the sport of American football. The Hurricanes compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The program began in 1926 and has won five AP national championships. Miami is ranked fourth on the list of All-time Associated Press National Poll Championships, tied with Southern California and behind Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Alabama.
Miami also holds a number of NFL Draft records, including most first round selections in a single draft and most consecutive drafts with at least one first round selection. As of the 2011 National Football League season, UM had the most players active in the NFL of any university in the nation, with 42. Two Hurricanes have won the Heisman Trophy and nine have been inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame. The team is coached by Al Golden and plays its home games at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The USC Trojans football program, established in 1888, represents the University of Southern California in college football. USC is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I FBS and the Pacific-12 Conference. The Trojans are a football powerhouse, and have been throughout NCAA history, claiming 11 national championships. As of 2013, 480 Trojans have been taken in the National Football League draft, more than from any other university. The team is currently coached by Steve Sarkisian.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team is the intercollegiate football team representing the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. The team is currently coached by Brian Kelly. The team plays its home games at the campus' Notre Dame Stadium, with a capacity of 80,795. Notre Dame is one of three schools that compete as an Independent at the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level; however, they play five games a year against opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference, which Notre Dame is a member of in all other sports.
One of the most iconic and successful programs in college sports, the Fighting Irish hold the highest winning percentage among college football programs and have 13 national championships recognized by the NCAA, tied for first out of all FBS schools in the NCAA era. A record seven Notre Dame players have won the Heisman trophy, and the program has produced 97 consensus All-Americans, 33 unanimous All-Americans, 485 National Football League draft picks, and 50 members of the College Football Hall of Fame, all NCAA records.
All Notre Dame home games are televised on Notre Dame Football on NBC.

Washington Huskies

The Washington Huskies are the college football team of the University of Washington. The Washington Huskies have won 15 Pacific-10 Conference championships, seven Rose Bowl titles, and four national championships recognized by the NCAA. Washington's all-time record of 692-427-50 ranks 19th by all-time winning percentage and 22nd by all-time victories. The team has two of the nation's longest winning streaks, including an NCAA second-best of 40 wins in a row, holds the Division I-A unbeaten record at 64 consecutive games, and has had a total of twelve unbeaten seasons, including seven perfect seasons. Washington is one of four charter members of what became the Pacific-12 Conference and one of only two schools with uninterrupted membership from the beginning. From 1977 through 2003, Washington had 27 consecutive non-losing seasons—the most of any team in the Pac-12 and the 14th longest streak by an NCAA Division I-A team. Through the 2011 season, its 357 conference victories rank second in conference history. The Huskies play on campus in historic Husky Stadium and are currently coached by Chris Petersen.

The UCF Knights football team represents The University of Central Florida in the sport of American football. The Knights compete in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the American Athletic Conference. Their current head coach is George O'Leary, who has led the team since 2004. The Knights play their home games at the 45,000 seat Bright House Networks Stadium, which is located on UCF's main campus in Orlando, Florida, United States.
The University of Central Florida first fielded a varsity football team in the fall of 1979 as a Division III program, and subsequently completed their ascension to Division I–A, now known as the Division I Football Subdivision, in 1996. As a Division I–AA program, the Knights made the 1990 and 1993 playoffs, and were picked as the preseason No. 1 team to start the 1994 season.
As of the completion of the 2014 regular season, UCF has 225 official victories, has won four division championships, and four conference championships. The Knights have made seven postseason appearances since joining FBS, in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014, including one BCS bowl game.

Established in 1888, and playing local YMCA teams and other state teams without pads, the Virginia football program has evolved into a multimillion dollar operation that plays in front of 61,500 fans at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Cavaliers have three major rivals in football: Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. The ACC's longest series is the South's Oldest Rivalry between Virginia and North Carolina. The Cavaliers also compete for the Commonwealth Cup against Virginia Tech and play in the Beltway Brawl against Maryland. While Virginia has played North Carolina more times than any other rival, all of these programs—Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech—consider Virginia to be their longest-standing rival.

The TCU Horned Frogs football team is the intercollegiate football team of Texas Christian University. The Horned Frogs compete in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the United States.
Since 2012, the Horned Frogs have been a member of the Big 12 Conference, and were previously members of the Mountain West Conference, Western Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Southwest Conference, and Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
TCU began playing football in 1896 and claims national championships in 1935 and 1938. TCU has one Heisman Trophy winner, Davey O'Brien, and has had seven former players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The Horned Frogs play their home games in Amon G. Carter Stadium, which is located on campus in Fort Worth.

The Fresno State Bulldogs football team represents California State University, Fresno in NCAA Division I FBS college football as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The green “V” on the Bulldogs' helmets, uniforms, field symbolize California Central Valley, specifically the San Joaquin Valley, the agricultural valley from which they draw their support. The current head coach is Tim DeRuyter, who was hired to replace Pat Hill on December 14, 2011.

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team represents the University of Alabama in the sport of American football. The Crimson Tide competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletics Association and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference. The team is currently coached by Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide is among the most storied and decorated football programs in NCAA history. Since beginning play in 1892, the program recognizes 15 of the national championships awarded to the team, including 10 wire-service national titles in the poll-era, the most of any current FBS program. From 1958 to 1982, the team was led by Hall of Fame coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, who won six national championships with the program. Despite numerous national and conference championships, it was not until 2009 that an Alabama player received a Heisman Trophy, when running back Mark Ingram became the university's first winner.
As of the completion of the 2014 season, Alabama has 850 official victories in NCAA Division I, has won 28 conference championships and has made an NCAA-record 61 postseason bowl appearances.

The Auburn Tigers football team represents Auburn University in the sport of American college football. The Tigers compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletics Association and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference.
Auburn officially began competing in intercollegiate football in 1892. The Tigers joined the Southeastern Conference in 1932 as one of the inaugural members of the conference and the Tigers began competing in the West Division when the conference divided in 1992. Auburn officially claims two national championships, but has been recognized with five national championships from NCAA documented selectors. Auburn has achieved seven perfect seasons and won twelve conference championships, along with eight divisional championships. The Tigers have made thirty-eight post season bowl appearances; including ten historically major bowl berths. The Tigers have the 12th most wins in FBS history with over 700 victories and have finished ranked in the Top 25 of either the AP or Coaches polls 37 times, including finishing in the top ten 18 times.
