Many famous stand-up comedians and comedic actors with medical issues didn't allow their challenges to get in the way of their dreams. Some of these comics were born with degenerative diseases, while others were involved in accidents later in life. In fact, one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time required use of a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis.

Who is the most famous comedian with a serious medical issue? Michael J. Fox tops our list. Comedic actor Michael J. Fox has Parkinson's disease. He has said, "I have no choice about whether or not I have Parkinson's. I have nothing but choices about how I react to it. In those choices, there's freedom to do a lot of things in areas that I wouldn't have otherwise found myself in."

In the 1990s, stand-up legend Richard Pryor started using a motorized scooter to get around because of his multiple sclerosis. "Ed" actor Daryl Mitchell is paralyzed from the waist down. He was injured in a motorcycle accident in 2001. "Last Comic Standing" alum Josh Blue has cerebral palsy.

In the 1990s, Richard Pryor started using a motorized scooter to get around because of his multiple sclerosis.

Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor was an American comedian, actor, film director, social critic, satirist, writer, and MC. Pryor was known for uncompromising examinations of racism and topical contemporary issues, which employed colorful vulgarities and profanity, as well as racial epithets. He reached a broad audience with his trenchant observations and storytelling style. He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential stand-up comedians of all time: Jerry Seinfeld called Pryor "The Picasso of our profession", and Bob Newhart has called Pryor "the seminal comedian of the last 50 years".
