An anti-hero is defined as a leading character in a story who lacks traditional heroic qualities such as idealism, courage, nobility, fortitude, moral goodness, and altruism. Where the classical hero is larger than life, an anti-hero is typically inferior to the reader in ways of intelligence, dynamism, and social purpose. So, in the technical definition of the word, there aren&#39;t really many examples of anti-heroes in comics, or films, for that matter.

Fortunately, the Byronic hero falls under the broad category, and the lesser known term is what we usually mistakenly refer to as an anti-hero. A Byronic hero is defined as a man (or woman) proud, moody, cynical, with defiance in his brow, and misery in his heart, implacable in revenge, and yet capable of deep and strong affection.

The Best of the 2010s

You almost have to be insane to be a comic book villain. They concoct grandiose schemes despite numerous failures, only to fail and be thrown back into prison by the seat of their spandex pants. It's hard to tell the difference between listing Batman's Rogues Gallery and flipping through the pages of the DSM-IV.Heroes aren't exempt from having mental problems. Nothing drives drama like a hero losing his or heror her marbles and turning against his allies. The power that makes them great often comes with a precarious fragility and it's that imbalance that draws us to their struggle.Even without the superhero dynamic, the crazy cream often rises to the top to create some of the most lasting impressions.&nbsp;This list contains the most unstable, insane, and downright crazy characters to ever grace the pages of comic books.

Like all media, comic books aren't free of prejudice and discrimination. While there has been&nbsp;social progress in comic books, you can't ignore its history. Carnage is a fictional supervillain appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics, usually as an enemy of Spider-Man. The character first appeared as Cletus Kasady in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 and as Carnage in The Amazing Spider-Man #360. He was created by writer David Michelinie and artists Erik Larsen and Mark Bagley, based on elements of the precursor character Venom. Gambit is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly in association with the X-Men. The character was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Jim Lee. Drawn by artist Mike Collins, Gambit makes his full first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #266, weeks after a brief cameo appearance in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14. As of 2013, there have been three attempts at an ongoing title starring the character. Gambit has also had two miniseries and starred prominently in Gambit & the X-Ternals, the X-Force replacement title during the Age of Apocalypse.
Gambit belongs to a subspecies of humans called mutants, who are born with superhuman abilities. Gambit has the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff. Gambit is known to charge playing cards and other objects with kinetic energy, using them as explosive projectiles.
He was part of a thieves' guild before becoming a member of the X-Men. Given his history, few X-Men trusted Gambit when he joined the group.

Originally a villain for the Teen Titans, writers have developed him over the years as an antagonist for the older heroes Batman and Green Arrow as well, establishing parallels between him and Batman and a deep-seated grudge between him and Green Arrow. Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) is a fictional superheroine that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. In 2009, Mysterio was ranked as IGN's 85th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time. The character made his live-action debut portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

Black Bolt is the ruler of the Inhumans, a reclusive race of genetically altered superhumans.
