A complete list of DVD manufactures world wide.  This list includes creators of DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and DVD data discs.  Developed in the mid 90's, the Digital Versatile Disc has proven itself to be a resilient media format.  Although HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were designed to replace it in 2006, the DVD format is still in wide use.  While DVD-Video discs are not hi-definition, there is plenty of content available, such as older television shows, that gain little advantage with HD.  DVD's are easy to use and universal (even Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible with them).  The DVD format should continue to be with us for some time to come.  The companies on this list are responsible for making the discs we all use.

Akai is a consumer electronics brand, now headquartered in Singapore. At its peak in the late 1990s Akai Holdings employed 100,000 workers and had annual sales of HK$40 billion but it collapsed in 2000 owing creditors US$1,100m. In addition to some development of musical instruments, the Akai brand name is also used to rebadge electronics manufactured by other companies. Apex Digital, Inc. Is an American electronics manufacturer based in City of Industry, California, manufacturers and distributors of high definition televisions, digital converter boxes and HDTV antennas. It filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on 17 Aug 2010.
Back in 2000, Apex DVD players acquired some amount of fame when it was discovered that they contained a secret menu screen that allowed the user to circumvent regional lockout and Macrovision's copy protection. This feature was put in by the Chinese company that manufactured the device which Apex packaged, and Apex said they had no prior knowledge of it. Apex quickly discontinued the model with the secret menu, but the player became a hot item on eBay, which led Macrovision to step in and have eBay ban sale of the player, citing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The same extra functionality can be enabled on some subsequent Apex players by replacing the device's firmware with a hacked version.
Presently the focus is on delivering value-priced, high performance LCD televisions using both LCD and LED technologies. Televisions are available nationally at Target and regionally at Brandsmart, BJ's and other retailers.

The notable early success of their amplifiers was followed up over 15 years later with some very well-reviewed compact disc players. The CD1 was a 2-box CD player, which made a name for the company as the first 2-box CD-player in the world. This was followed by the CD2, which featured four 16-bit 4 times oversampling DACs. The company then developed a cassette deck and tuner to add to their range of source components. Acquisition by Audio Partnership saw it shed most of its product line to first focus on budget hi-fi. The success of their products has seen the company move into the mid-tier market.
Within the UK, Cambridge Audio is available only through Richer Sounds. Their products are distributed in over 45 countries and have received some positive reviews from hi-fi and home cinema magazines.
