Have you ever been watching a television show or a movie and thought a costume looked familiar? It's entirely possible you've seen it before - on another show or film.

Hollywood studios, private collectors, and online sellers make it relatively easy to exchange sets, props, and clothing, allowing for costumes to show up in multiple movies or television series. When costumes appear on screen more than once, it can be the result of budget restrictions, finding a must-have item, or embracing a new fashion trend.

Websites dedicate themselves to spotting recycled movie costumes, often identifying examples of reused wardrobes. It's possible an item seen front and center on one show could be placed in the background of another. Sometimes costume recycling is more subtle, with minor alterations or tweaks made to a piece in hopes viewers won't notice.

How do you feel about these movie costumes used more than once? Did you notice?

Before the well-known dress worn by Glinda (AKA the Good Witch of the North) appeared in The Wizard of Oz in 1939, it was worn by actress Jeanette MacDonald in San Francisco.

The dress had a slightly different collar in that 1936 film - a feature dress designer Adrian Adolph Greenberg altered for Glinda (Billie Burke).
