List RulesUpvote your favorite country songs about going home or loving your hometown.

You’ll find songs about home in virtually every genre of music, but more so in country music than any other. Country songs about home continually pop up year after year, with singers expressing their longing for home, hoping to get the heck out of their hometowns, or just describing life in their own neck of the woods.

Life in a small town can be routine. But some of these songs, like Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go ‘Round,” explain that yes, while that’s true, it’s also all these residents know. And some performers enjoy their small world very much, taking pride in where they were raised (“Boondocks” by Little Big Town).

Other country hometown songs have the singers waxing nostalgic about how much they miss a simpler life back home, including “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts. And John Denver summed up the feeling of missing his home with 1971’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” But perhaps the most gut-wrenching “missing home” song written in the modern country era is Miranda Lambert’s emotional “The House that Built Me.” In it, she wanders through the home where she grew up, noting that she knows its every nook and cranny. She knows where her beloved dog is buried in the yard. She remembers her room, where she first learned how to play the guitar. And she tries to come to terms with who she was then, and who she is now, hoping that paying this visit will help.
