Sure, it plays music videos but MTV's best shows are usually the ones that have nothing to do with song. 16 and Pregnant is a prime example of this. A show about pregnant teenagers might seem like a bizarre content choice for a channel that brands itself as distributor of "Music Television." 16 and Pregnant has definitely made MTV a lot of money, though. After it's original airing, the show spawned multiple spin-off series; Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, Teen Mom 3, and Teen Mom OG.
Over the course of five seasons, there have been more than a few bizarre happenings on 16 and Pregnant. In addition to the usual teenage drama of dating, school, and prom, these teens have a lot on their plate. Many come from broken homes themselves and face issues like poverty, homelessness, violence, and abuse.
Including everything from emotional adoptions to abusive partners, these are the craziest episodes of 16 and Pregnant.
Catelynn And Tyler
Season 1, Episode 6
Catelynn and her boyfriend Tyler are from a small town in Michigan. They have been together for three years and at 16, they find themselves expecting a child. They both come from tumultuous homes and are considering giving their daughter up for adoption. Even though Catelynn's mom and Tyler's dad are adamantly opposed to the decision, the young parents pursue an open adoption.
They know that they can't provide their daughter the future she deserves, so they make the heart wrenching decision to place her in a loving adoptive family. They follow through with that decision while camera's roll in an extremely emotional scene.
Why It's Crazy
Where do we even start? Oh, right, Catelynn and Tyler are step-siblings. After they started dating at just 13, their parents happened to meet, fall in love, and get married. That's pretty crazy but it's only the beginning.
Tyler calls dad Butch out for being a deadbeat who was in and out of prison his entire childhood. This is after Butch assumes that Tyler is choosing adoption because he just doesn't want to "man-up" to his responsibilities.
Catelynn's mom isn't any better; she tries to manipulate her daughter by buying baby items. She even buys Cate a bassinet for when she "changes her mind about the adoption." Despite having incredibly un-supportive parents, a toxic home life, and young ages, these two made an incredibly mature decision. That's pretty crazy for this show.
"I just want her to have better than what I had. And I know that I can't do that. So, I'm just doing the thing that I think's the best."
"My kid deserves way better than this. Way better."
"I didn't have a stable household, I didn't have two parents... I'm at peace with my decision."Is this a crazy episode?
Jordan and Derek
Season 5, Episode 9
Jordan is a senior and her boyfriend Derek is in college. Jordan's parents let the young man move in with them but things spiral out of control when Jordan becomes pregnant. Derek decides to quit school and focus on his job. He loses that job, though, and Jordan's parents kick him out.
Pregnant Jordan goes with him and spends her third trimester couch surfing and living out of a mini-van with Derek. The two finally crash with a family friend who is willing to help them long term.
Jordan spends a great deal of energy trying to convince Derek to look for a job and support the baby.
Why It's Crazy
Jordan and Derek are homeless for the majority of their episode. Once they finally find secure lodgings, things seem to level out. Their fate soon plummets, though, their van dies, and the landlord where they're staying kicks everyone out. Jordan agrees to leave everything behind and move to Texas to live with Derek's dad, even though her boyfriend hasn't convinced her that he's ready to be mature.
"I can leave at any point in time that I want to leave. You're stuck here, I'm not." - Derek to JordanIs this a crazy episode?
Millina And Trevor
Season 5, Episode 3
Millina is a 16-year-old high school dropout from a broken home. Her mother is in jail on drug charges, her father is broke and unreliable. Millina and her little brother wind up living with their maternal grandmother. After a rebellious period, Millina meets Trevor and finds herself pregnant. The father-to-be tries to convince Millina to move in with him but his family situation is far from ideal. After a confrontation with Trevor's overly emotional mom, Millina can't be convinced. Then, when the baby's born, the guy bails anyway.
Why It's Crazy
In addition to the drama with her own unstable parents, Millina has an epic throw-down with her boyfriend's mom while pregnant. The expectant mom says that won't be comfortable leaving her baby alone with Trevor's mom because she often has unexpected strokes. After listening to the irate older mom badmouth her own mother in retaliation, Millina calmly and rationally walks out.
Needless to say, she never moves in with Trevor.
"I don't think that I will ever 100% fully feel comfortable with you being alone with the baby"
"You know what, I am nothing but the best f*cking mother in this goddamn world."
"There's nobody in this world that wouldn't trust me with their f*cking baby!"Is this a crazy episode?
Leah And Corey
Season 2, Episode 8
Leah lives in a tiny double-wide with her mom, brother, and sister. Her home is about to get even more cramped because Leah is pregnant with twins. Leah gets pregnant with her rebound guy, after dating him for only a month. The two decide to move in together since there's hardly any space at Leah's place. They are basically strangers, however, and the stress of parenthood eventually tears them apart.
Why It's Crazy
A twin pregnancy is always a little hectic. Add a teenage parent to the mix, and the chance for insanity doubles. The roller coaster that is Leah and Corey's relationship is the highlight of the craziness. Between Leah inviting her ex over and Corey dating within a week of their breakup, the two are never destined for marital bliss.
In a more harmless form of craziness, Leah pees her pants while they're out looking at apartments.
"I hate my life, I really do."
"I feel like my life has been sucked out of me."Is this a crazy episode?
