This huge Latin manuscript (the book is almost three feet long and weighs 165 lbs) was written by a 13th-century Benedictine monk in what is now the Czech Republic. The 620-page book contains everything from a complete copy of the Bible to instructions on how to perform an exorcism. In fact, it is rumored to contain all human knowledge. Even more amazing, the entire book appears to have been written by a single scribe, a task that may have taken as many as 30 years to finish. The book is sometimes called "The Devil's Bible," due in part to the giant drawing of the devil contained inside.

According to legend, a monk was awaiting execution for crimes he had committed. He asked his superiors to spare his life if he could produce a glorious work in a single night. The monk sold his soul to Satan in exchange for the devil's help and produced the Codex Gigas before dawn, sealing the pact with the large illustration of the devil seen inside.

This large grimoire of Arabic magic (presumed to be from the 11th century) has long been considered obscene due to the graphic nature of its contents. Largely a scholarly work filled with philosophy, astrology, and medieval science, the Picatrix also includes recipes for concoctions mixing human and animal blood, brains, urine, and other bodily fluids with opium and other dangerous substances to achieve various magical results.

For example, a charm "that you may appear in the form of any animal that you wish" starts by directing the reader to take the semen of a healthy man and put it in an egg shell together with the semen of the animal he wishes to appear as, then leave the egg buried in warm manure for three days.

Looking to make a pact with the devil? The Grand Grimoire (also known as The Red Dragon) will give you the knowledge you need. The manual instructs its readers on how to summon a demon and make a pact with it, forcing it to do as you command. Supposedly based on the writings of the Biblical King Solomon, the book is still in active use by some practitioners of Haitian Voodoo.

Also, the actual book itself, which is kept in the Vatican’s secret archives, is rumored to be indestructible, even by fire.

Considered the foundational text for contemporary Satanism, The Satanic Bible contains essays and rituals by the infamous "Black Pope" Anton Lavey. Anton Lavey wore many hats before he delved into Satanism: "he had prepared by being a lion trainer for the Clyde Beatty Circus, a professional organist, oboeist, crime photographer, artist, hypnotist and psychic investigator."

The Satanic Bible is divided into four sections: The Book of Satan, The Book of Lucifer, The Book of Belial, and The Book of Leviathan. The Book of Belial contains magical rituals for "sex, compassion, and destruction;" the Book of Leviathan offers invocations for these three things, as well as an invocation of Satan.
