More than simply aiding their human masters in times of need, these robots have taken on a life of their own.

Robots serve a host of different functions, and they come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. C-3PO, for instance, is modeled after a human and was thus programmed for human-like tasks. Wall-E, on the other hand, is built more like a pint-sized trash compactor and was designed to be a worker robot. And we can't forget the loveable Johnny 5, the cute 80s robot who came to life after being struck by lightning.
