20 Dark Action Anime That Are Way More Than Just Fighting

August 17, 2020 5.6k votes 976 voters 30.0k views20 items

It takes more than blood and guts to make an adult anime mature. Sure, as entertaining as over-the-top violence is, it’s nothing without a good, thought-provoking story to be in service to. Dark action anime like Berserk is filled with intense violence, however, what kept viewers coming back for more was the unfolding rival relationship between Guts and Griffith.

The same could be said for Parasyte -the maxim-, which takes the classic “body snatcher” storyline and heightens it by mixing the extraordinary violence with the unraveling morality of its human lead. There are more dark action anime that know how to punch up the carnage, while having a stimulating message to go with it.

However, a Parasyte named Migi fails to infect a high-schooler named Shinichi Izumi and now lives within his right hand. As the Parasytes continue to feast on humanity, Shinichi and Migi must learn to fight together to save themselves and others from the ongoing alien assault.
